Relentlessly trivial. Go to Full Review

In the hands of more subtle and sophisticated filmmakers, Sullivan's denial of his blindness might have provided the impetus for a moving story. But subtlety isn't this film's thing. Go to Full Review

12/28/2019 I first saw this movie on HBO shortly after my family first got cable, and watching it now many decades later, I still love it. Most reviewers concentrate on Tom Sullivan's immaturity and how he pokes fun at others who don't understand how a blind person navigates life... but the whole point of the movie is how life finally forced Tom to grow up and recognize his limitations. Give it a watch - it is free on the internet archive - and treat yourself to a slice of the early 80s and how we all used to see the world. Who knows, if enough people care, it may even show up on a commercial streaming service in a good format! See more 03/20/2017 Missed it in the theater, but caught it all summer on HBO. Had its moments, especially in the relationship between Sly and Tom. See more 09/28/2014 As the son of a blind mother, I found this film offensive when I saw it with friends at the time. Friends make light of the disability and manipulate him to get laughs. Sickening. See more 12/20/2008 One of my all-time favorite movies...a true story and very inspirattional, a great watch! See more 08/26/2008 Wonderful perfomances by all, it's an amazing story, full of moments that will make you laugh, as well as cry.
