Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Relentlessly trivial. Rated: 2/4 May 8, 2019 Full Review Bruce McCabe Boston Globe In the hands of more subtle and sophisticated filmmakers, Sullivan's denial of his blindness might have provided the impetus for a moving story. But subtlety isn't this film's thing. Apr 27, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I first saw this movie on HBO shortly after my family first got cable, and watching it now many decades later, I still love it. Most reviewers concentrate on Tom Sullivan's immaturity and how he pokes fun at others who don't understand how a blind person navigates life... but the whole point of the movie is how life finally forced Tom to grow up and recognize his limitations. Give it a watch - it is free on the internet archive - and treat yourself to a slice of the early 80s and how we all used to see the world. Who knows, if enough people care, it may even show up on a commercial streaming service in a good format! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Missed it in the theater, but caught it all summer on HBO. Had its moments, especially in the relationship between Sly and Tom. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member As the son of a blind mother, I found this film offensive when I saw it with friends at the time. Friends make light of the disability and manipulate him to get laughs. Sickening. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my all-time favorite movies...a true story and very inspirattional, a great watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Wonderful perfomances by all, it's an amazing story, full of moments that will make you laugh, as well as cry.
