James M Never really got going. Had it followed the formula of the trinity movies, it could have been a fine swashbuckling romp. But Terrence & Bud were cast as rivals, rather than partners, which would have been better. Bud looked bored and Terrence played a cynical mercenary. The films budget didn't help, with them relying heavily on stock footage. When you see The two missionaries, you can see what a Bud Spencer & Terrence Hill pirate film would have been like. Disappointed. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/29/22 Full Review tiago d Um filme mais serio, e mais Terrence que Bud, mas ainda assim um deleite para fãs da dupla em um trabalho bem diferente dos seus costumeiros Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is an agreeable entertainment juvenile romp.....the movie displays action, swordplay, fist-play and humor....this release has some nice and even hilarious moments here and there , though isn't always interesting , sometimes is diverting and fresh and on a couple of sympathetic occasions is frankly delicious....Terence Hill is cool as the pirate hero who finds dangerous situations while trying rob the shipment......this isn't the usual Hill-Spencer buddy movie, but they're contenders instead of partners, for that reason they're best known for roles in Spaghetti, 'They call me Trinity¨and followings, where they're much better......this standard and average 7o's Italian swashbuckling film to be liked for Hill and Spencer fans....in spite of the film's title, it doesn't have been inspired by the Emilio Salgari (creator of popular heroic figure Sandokan) novel "The Black Pirate" - which, apart from two earlier European film versions, would again be brought to the screen (far more effectively) a mere five years after this one (with TV's Sandokan himself, Kabir Bedi, in the lead)...... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member List of pluses and minuses: + interesting story - boring! Also hard to follow, its too vague. + occasionally inadvertently funny (but not a comedy) - stunts are bad and the pirate swashbuckiling ridiculous in theatrical style. I was like, come on, when someone was hit with a sword in the stomach and obviously held the sword beside him with his hand to make it look like it went through him. + has some fun scenes and one pretty funny character (the mute pirate) - so called special effects are really silly and the film has the smell of low budget all around it.. the ocean and ship -scenes look like they have been cut from another film.. when they get down from the window using the rope, pay attention to the female character hanging from the male character: she's a doll..and the dvd has no extras. - its not really exciting, although it tried to be, and it is not a comedy, humour is quite unintentional. - the clothes are silly looking, cause they are so clean & bright even on the dirty ol'e pirates.. - the sillyness and the bloopers could be forgivable, but the boring and messy script is not. Its just too slow and doesn't make practically any sense whatsoever. A couple of fights are, despite being non believable, are ok, but other than that, the film is too shallow and meaningless. Bud Spencer and Terence Hill have been starring in nice comedies, but this non-comedy wanna-be pirate film is a bad movie no matter which way one looks at it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Has some fun visuals that suit this genre, the story itself couldn't be considered as swashbuckling. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member If one takes this film to seriously they wont enjoy it half as much as they should.
