Chris Willman Variety “Immediate Family” keeps hustling along like a soft-rock freight train, relying not just on the then-and-now chemistry between the four core players but also on our eagerness to jump with them to the next celebrity-session story. Dec 20, 2023 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times A fantastic array of archival clips, and testimonies from the likes of Phil Collins, Carole King, Don Henley, Keith Richards, the late David Crosby, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young and Jackson Browne... Rated: 3/4 Dec 16, 2023 Full Review Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com Serves as both a warm and undeniably tuneful nostalgia bath for those who grew up listening to their work and an effective oral history of a particular place and time in the history of American popular music. Rated: 3/4 Dec 15, 2023 Full Review Johnny Loftus Decider The doc is also a kind of sonic rolodex, linking some of their greatest material to their long standing professional legacy. Apr 16, 2024 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers For anyone with more than a passing interest in rock and roll history, “Immediate Family” is a worthwhile indulgence. Dec 29, 2023 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review My only complaint abut The Immediate Family is that it feels too short, and I would have loved to hear more music, both original tunes from the band and examples of their studio work over the years. George D Once again Mr. Tedesco uses his considerable skill as filmmaker and music aficionado, insider, cultural participant to describe the love of music and musicians and exposes the industry that exploded during the era that began as its predecessor began to change with the time. What comes through most however, is the love of musicians for music, each other, and the excellence that camaraderie brings. A great movie. It's all about the love done lovingly! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/24 Full Review Audience Member This is a beautiful movie about love and art--especially music of the 70's and 80's. Engaging, revealing, joyful. Even if you don't know the music. But a beautiful warm bath in those iconic 70's songs if you do. And a revealing look at art and artists. Highly recommended! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Donna W Loved this movie! Sound and editing were great. In-depth interviewing that did not flit around every 3 seconds - you got to know the band members, how they met and the amazing talent they all have. Loved that the names of people talking were shown each time and not just once at the beginning - because sometimes I forget who they are :) Great music, amazing history, huge talent and personalities! Don't miss this! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Dave C What a documentary! Recommend for anyone who loves music…so much wow factor in this doc. Bravo! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Steve C Another great film from Denny Tedesco. The music of my youth brought into clear focus with a deep dive into these fabulous musicians. I have followed Lee Sklar for some time and have watched the rest of the guys countless times on TV while they played behind Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Carol King and other heros of the 70's. The film gives a good look at our lives then and now. Them, as performers, and us, as the audience. My only suggestion would be to add a bigger performance piece without interruption. Overall, a great and interesting movie. Highly recommend. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Phillipe R This documentary skillfully captures a moment in music history that is a must-watch for anyone smitten with rock & roll. In the mid-70s and beyond, individuals such as Leland Sklar, Waddy Wachtel, Danny Kortchmar, Russ Kunkel, and later Steve Postel emerged as pivotal studio and touring musicians but their stories were anything buy predictable. Their remarkable contributions were integral to the work of some of the most celebrated artists of our time, including Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Carol King, Keith Richards, Phil Collins, David Crosby, and many more. Watch it and mark my words you will be inspired! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
