Grateful someone could explain what the backstory was because it sure was not clear from the movie. Great acting. Believable, but odd, characters. Disappointing ending as it seemed for the most part plot and not character driven.

Much better than it aught to be. Good, solid writing, great cast, interesting mysterious storyline. Not perfect, but a good way to spend 90 minutes.

The book creeped me out a lot more, but this was still a pretty good adaptation & left me feeling disturbed at the end. Excellent performances from the whole cast. (Also re: the review that complains of unexplained plot elements, that's how the book works as far as i recall, read it in high school so it's been a few years ;).) And the mystery is a part of it, i like films that make me think, but i don't like so much to be left up to me either ;).
