In the late 1980s, the fishing industry in North Shields, England is on the wane. Alfie (Dave Hill), the struggling captain of a 60-foot fishing boat known as the Sally, is visited by his teen daughter, Karen (Joanna Ripley), after a five-year estrangement. She sets sail with her father and his crew on a 10-day trip. Her presence triggers a variety of emotions and reactions on the part of the all-male crew and prompts a good deal of jealousy, suspicion and gossip among the women on land.
