What to Know

Critics Consensus

Aiming high in ambition but scoring low in execution, In the Blink of an Eye is a sprawling meditation on the human condition that turns up few compelling revelations.

Stanton’s long-delayed film is looking to capture the fragile wonder of life, but it can be po-faced, lacking detail and occasionally daft. Go to Full Review

“In the Blink of an Eye” proves yet again that Stanton is a dreamer, with an unshakeable faith in humanity. That’s not nothing. Go to Full Review

There’s just not enough space given to these characters to grow into full beings, or for us to understand the full import of their actions before we’re whisked away elsewhere. Go to Full Review

Andrew Stanton’s In the Blink of an Eye aims for cosmic humanism but ends up oddly flat. Ambitious ideas, three timelines and a Pixar-like sentimentality never quite work in live action, leaving behind a sci-fi drama that’s more dull than profound. Go to Full Review

Samuel B @sbloor91 6h Low expectations going in but ended up being inspiring and easy to watch. The different timelines peaked my interest of human pre-history and future humanity/sci-fi. The modern story line was a little bit drab but highlights the complexity of modern relationships. Highly recommend. See more Mel W @DisneyBrideApril25 1d Such an inspiring movie about humanity and mortality. Highly recommended!!! See more Matthew C @RT52027895 1d I only felt compelled to review to toss another vote in with the audience score. I dont know how it ended up with a 18% critic score but that seems incredibly harsh. My biggest critique is that I actually think it could have been longer. It packs three stories into a roughly 90 minute run time. Itscan be boring at times, but i think in part, perhaps, because there just isn't enough time to really engage with the characters. I think it was a big idea and it could have been more than it is. Still, its a decent and thought provoking movie. Its worth a watch. See more Vicky S @RT83010580 1d I’m glad I didn’t check the critic’s reviews first. To simply put it I love this movie. It made me research more about pre- historic men. This maybe science fiction but also base on recent factual discoveries about them. It doesn’t surprise me that Kate Mckinnon would act in dramas. It’s not uncommon for comedians to excel in both roles. See more Brenda K @BK_Viewer 3d (Contains spoilers.) I really appreciated the whole theme behind this film. It was a little off-putting to see Kate McKinnon in the lead role, which is so very different from her comedy persona I’ve known and loved but her performance grew on me as the film went on. I was bothered by the fact she was utterly alone and yet seemed to be wearing lipstick and full eye makeup but I guess glaming it up helped pass the time during the approx. 236 (?) years she was on that spacecraft. In the end, I kept hoping they could revive Rosco again after landing so that she could have a lifelong companion. It was really a thought-provoking movie. See more Jason T @RT73333723 3d Another movie where the critics just show how useless they are. Giant gaps between critic scores and audience scores should eventually lead to common sense... lose the critics, they don't know what they're talking about. See more Read all reviews
