What to Know

Critics Consensus

Aiming high in ambition but scoring low in execution, In the Blink of an Eye is a sprawling meditation on the human condition that turns up few compelling revelations.

Director Andrew Stanton weaves together three different stories across three different eras of human history. The result is a streaming epic as painfully sappy as it is structurally ambitious. Go to Full Review

Stanton’s long-delayed film is looking to capture the fragile wonder of life, but it can be po-faced, lacking detail and occasionally daft. Go to Full Review

“In the Blink of an Eye” proves yet again that Stanton is a dreamer, with an unshakeable faith in humanity. That’s not nothing. Go to Full Review

For a film supposedly trying to suggest something deep with its messaging it ultimately delivers something surprisingly hollow. Go to Full Review

The past, present and future of humankind are explored in this muddled sci-fi fable whose three interwoven tales infuriate more than enlighten. Go to Full Review

The links between the three stories are fairly groan-inducing, and the attempt at an uplifting message is barely worthy of the kind of silent nod you give someone who lets you into traffic. Go to Full Review

Nathan J. @NathanDirector 2d Rating: 5.1/10 ⭐️ I expected a sweeping epic, but juggling three disconnected timelines made it super disjointed and tough to get through. What Worked: Birkeland’s cinematography and Newman’s score create a stunning landscape. Jones brings a grounded gravity that perfectly balances the massive scale. Seeing characters search for meaning across 47,000 years was profound. It is a beautiful reminder of the eternal, divine thread connecting all our struggles in a much larger, God-ordained tapestry. The Cuts: Jumping between three eras meant the momentum totally stalled out; it was just spinning its wheels. Keeping it spoiler-free, McKinnon's hyper-serious astronaut role felt jarring, and her whole section really dragged for me. The film bites off way more than it can chew and just feels hollow rather than giving a satisfying payoff. Verdict: An ambitious but messy sci-fi epic. Watch for stunning visuals, skip if you want a tight, character-driven story. See more kitty C @Kitty5754 3d This is a movie you watch and if you are listening you will feel the story. Ignore any negative reviews. I was completely captivated from the beginning and ended up with tears and a peaceful heart at the end. Life will out! It's about time and love and how we all are connected and creating the future. It's about even if we are in the future we were part of creating it. Please make more. Everyone can use this kind of love and hope. See more Monica M @RT85742081 3d The critics review it as it's a film for adults, completely missing that this is a movie for little grown children and teenagers, a sci-fi tale with many interesting details, showing as human hearts and reactions stay almost the same through millennia. I would have liked to be more clear - and for sure dramatic, to not skip the part of the story about human race destroying their own planet and having to send a spaceship with an almost immortal astronaut, a sentient AI and embryos to survive. See more Sheldon J @RT61851143 3d What a boring movie. It carried on and on and on and on and on ...........get the message. I admit I watched till the end but .....hoping something exciting would happen. What a waste of time. Definitely don't recommend this to anyone unless...you have a lot of time to waste. See more Kashgar A @AllFunAndGames 4d Another example of how the critics just can’t seem to read the room. I liked this movie and its simple message of continuity. The music was beautiful too See more Read all reviews
