Tjerk v I wanted to say it's ok but thinking more about it it's kinda dumb while it thinks it's being clever. Acting and visuals aren't bad but in the end the story is a bit insulting. A part of the plot SPOILERS is about killing people in the past to prevent a catastrophe in the future. The dumb part about it is one, the old time travel paradox of trying to change something (by killing people) that has already happened. If you change that thing then it won't happen and you will not go back, so then it will happen, so you will go back, etc. etc. Two, why always kill why not change someone's mind or find a non lethal way of changing the past. It just feels lazy and bloodthirsty and removes sympathy for the characters motivations. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Alec B The time travel gimmick here isn't perhaps the most original but Mickle wisely puts the emotional core of the story front and center which has the effect of mostly negating you overthinking the premise. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Camila R The trailer makes it look like a sci-fi. However, the film lacks sci-fi elements, which was frustrating. It's a detective film, with weak acting and characters that lack depth. Overall, it's watchable but not very good. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Ted B 3.0 stars; Not a bad combination of a Detective story, a who dunnit, and sci-fi. I was in the mood for a good mystery, and this movie actually gave me a little more than that. The acting did not have much depth but was acceptable. Over-all enjoyable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/06/23 Full Review Linda C Just finished this sci-fi, politicized murder mystery. I'm mad that I wasted two hours of my evening. It might have had an interesting beginning but it devolved into a conspiracy to commit murder in order for life to prevail. The ending tried to convince the viewer that it was all necessary with a bit of dramatics. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/06/23 Full Review Don L I watched this early 3am this morning. My wife wanted me to go downstairs and stay there cause she stayed up too late- and she didn't want to be bothered. Haha. Anyhow, this movie actually started like a decent detective movie- but then it slowly unravels into somewhat and intriguing circumstances. The development of the movie keeps you interested enough- and you will accept certain impossibilities about time travel- and then the climax. The protagonist and the antagonist meet with a sort of shocking discovery. The idea of a solution here is somewhat terrifying because it involces killing people with bad ideas from the past. Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle In the Shadow of the Moon comes up short in regard to the human angle. Still, there's enough mystery to pull the plot through, and all the technical aspects of the made-for-Netlix film are top tier. Oct 4, 2019 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Pajiba In the Shadow of the Moon is inconsistently fascinating, often muddled, and totally ignorant of why time travel rules. Oct 4, 2019 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News [W]hen you least expect it, "In the Shadow of the Moon" delivers a powerful message about the roots of hate and the dangers it poses to society. Don't let this one stay in the shadows for long. Rated: A Oct 3, 2019 Full Review Lonita Cook KCTV5 News at 9 This sincere and intriguing mystery is a fine whodunit. Sep 14, 2021 Full Review Prahlad Srihari Firstpost Its combination of buddy cop drama, serial killer whodunit, and time travel thriller does seem like the result of a mix-and-matching algorithm. Rated: 2/5 Jul 24, 2020 Full Review Amanda Greever The Daily Times (Tennessee) At some point, In the Shadow of the Moon just goes down a wormhole of politics and elaborate theories. It's not fun to watch, and when we finally get the big reveal of why the killer did what she did we don't care. Nov 27, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
