Alain E This is a magnificent film produced through the Dogme 95 movement. It explores issues of guilt and redemption, personal responsibility and whether we have any chance of salvation. The main character is a female priest assigned soon after graduating from the seminary to a female prison in Denmark. She is sincere and has good intentions, when after years of infertility she unexpectedly becomes pregnant. She soon has to face severe challenges both personal and professional. Other members of the staff and several inmates are fleshed out very well. The ending is appropriately ambiguous. The inmate who deals drugs is described as evil but everyone else is illustrated in shades of grey. Cinematography is elementary, so in scenes with low lighting the color balance changes significantly. But this is not a Hollywood production. This movie could be a thesis submitted to a university course on ethics and religion. Another gem on Tubi. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
