Audience Member Formulaic and predictable, yes. Beautifully shot, and a music score to match? Also, yes! Pastiche, certainly, but not to the point you stop watching. The direction is strong, and the acting is good Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Caricatural jusqu'au trognon, rempli de clichés imaginaires qui montrent que Ludovic Bernard n'a jamais mis les pieds dans un conservatoire et ne connaît pas grand chose à la musique. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review william k Good cast, nice to look at, but utterly cliche-ridden and predictable tale of taming the genius from skid row. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Kristin Scott Thomas as piano teacher is a scene stealer and reminded me of J. K. Simmons in Whiplash. There are no other good things to say about this movie. 5/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review mauro l The fusion of Bach, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff with the Groove Armada of "Hands of Time" and, above all, the Pixies of "Where Is My Mind?" is ingenious. The beauty of this film does not consist in its alleged consolatory effect, but in reminding us how music can express any moment of life, every existential instant. With due distinctions, it didn't happen to me since "All That Jazz" (Bob Fosse, 1979). And when Kristin Scott Thomas wants to go back to the pulp junk, she will always find the Refn of "Only God Forgives" (2013) ready to welcome her. (Mauro Lanari) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Very enjoyable movie, though a bit predictable. Kind of like Le Brio but with plenty of good music. Kevin Maher Times (UK) A tone-deaf pastiche, at best. Rated: 1/5 Jul 16, 2020 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian Painfully programmatic twaddle... Rated: 2/5 Jul 9, 2020 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij Hollywood Reporter Like the film's formulaic plot outline, the veterans' performances are peppered with unexpected little moments, turning what could have easily been almost too familiar into a slightly more textured work. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review John Lui The Straits Times (Singapore) This film serves as a reminder, too often forgotten in dramas which lean on dialogue, that cinema is a medium of vision and sound. Rated: 3/5 Sep 11, 2019 Full Review Francisco Marinero El Mundo (Spain) Renouncing the melodrama winds up making this story uninteresting. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 2/5 Feb 8, 2019 Full Review Javier Ocaña El Pais (Spain) In Your Hands doesn't have it's own style in staging and has a rather gaudy creative impulse in the sequences surrounding love and sex.
