      Critics Consensus

Into the Forest grounds its familiar apocalyptic framework with a relatable look at the bond between two sisters, compellingly brought to life by Elliot Page and Evan Rachel Wood.

John L Sounded like it had promise, but altogether dumb across the board. Disappointing. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/06/23 Full Review Emilliano S Decent, apocalyptic, survival thriller. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/23/23 Full Review Glenn A A poorly written story with an incredibly stupid ending. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Michael C Anyone who gave this movie anything above 2 stars should have their head checked. 5 stars???? i'm looking at you Chelsea M. Seek Help I pretty much knew right away by how much dancing they kept showing, that there wasn't going to be any substance to this movie. Elliot Paige is the only thing that made this movie remotely tolerable. Her performance was good. Rachel seemed wooden and stupid, but honestly i think thats just due to a terrible script. I kind of wish Elliot paige didn't act so well, because i would have turned it off earlier. I turned it off at about 40 mins, and i'm glad I did after reading the rest of the plot synopsis. Nothing about the actions of the characters in this movie are realistic. My wife had tuned out around 20 minutes in, but the plot starts off interesting enough that it hooked me for a little longer. This movie's pacing is terrible, and it sucks. Just flat out sucked Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/06/23 Full Review Bessie B I love both Page and Wood (would have given half a star otherwise), but this movie was awful. Terrible script, excruciatingly slow pacing, bland characters, and it's one of those movies where the characters make horrible, unrealistic decisions for no reason but to make the plot interesting (which it doesn't). Skip this one for sure Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/16/22 Full Review jelisije j Two sister struggle to survive during the early stages of the world ending and the third act keeps this film from being good. Manohla Dargis New York Times The movie lacks urgency. The world may be burning; here, it barely simmers. Mar 4, 2019 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood are as impressively understated as the direction. Rated: 4/5 Dec 27, 2016 Full Review Laura Kern Film Comment Magazine Nell and Eva's relationship forms the heart of the film and, along with the fleeting moments of ecstasy they find in things previously taken for granted, their bond provides something of genuine beauty in a progressively bleak world. Sep 6, 2016 Full Review Louisa Moore Screen Zealots An intensely bleak feminist-tinged apocalyptic tale of sisterly love and devotion taken to the extreme. Rated: 3/5 Dec 20, 2018 Full Review Frank Ochieng SF Crowsnest ...[an] intimate, gripping and quietly thoughtful post-apocalyptic drama. Undoubtedly, Into The Forest marches into the wayward woods of darkness in what amounts to be a surreal, disastrous fairy tale tainted in psychological turmoil. Rated: 3/4 Nov 9, 2018 Full Review Jacob Oller Vague Visages For a feminist attempt to show two women leaning on each other, Into the Forest barely sketches them out.
