      Critics Consensus

IO has some big ideas but little idea of how to effectively convey them, leaving viewers with a sci-fi drama whose attractive packaging can't cover its enervating core.

Jason T I could never quite feel the danger of the planet with such amazing wild landscapes full of grasses and sunshine. The film also plodded along way too slowly in places. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Patrick G Absolut waste of time Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Virus S A terrible sci-fantasy production that doesn't stand up to even casual scrutiny. The world logic just isn't there. The central character ventures out to collect various samples in an environment that is apparently devoid of breathable air, yet is riding a combustion engine vehicle. Next, she carefully starts collecting samples in sterile bags, using her bare hands? Right from the outset this film sets the tone of being ambivalent with its world-building details. It's best for audiences to just skip this lazy production. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Alexander S It honestly seemed like a really good movie at first. Soon as you get to the middle of the movie it falls apart quickly. Alot of annoying scientific inaccuracies bog down this sci-fi movie that aims for realism. The ending is also a huge middle finger to the audience. Wouldnt suggest watching this. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/01/23 Full Review Kenneth P They couldn't have made this movie's pace slower if they tried. The plot unfolds at a snail's pace and i the dialogue doesn't help keep you interested. If you've got a few free hours and don't expect much, then I guess it's worth suffering through. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/03/23 Full Review T'challa It would be nice to have a little Sci-fi in my Sci-fi movie. This was just a drama with an apocalyptic back drop. Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald It's still watchable enough, thanks to an unsettlingly ambiguous performance by Margaret Qualley...and a spot of clanging contemporary relevance. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Scott Tobias New York Times A film more interested in symbols of human resilience than in the flesh-and-blood passions that animate it. Jan 24, 2019 Full Review Keith Uhlich Hollywood Reporter It's not a good sign... when a movie ostensibly meant to rekindle one's faith in mankind makes you long instead for permanent apocalypse. Jan 18, 2019 Full Review Lonita Cook KCTV5 News at 9 It's an interesting, compelling idea, but it's a little bit low-key. Oct 1, 2021 Full Review Dan Ashby Cultured Vultures The handful of twists, a little world context and the unique visual style make for an intriguing watch, it's just a shame that the film is a little too much of a slow burn. Aug 17, 2019 Full Review Dan Webster Spokesman-Review (Washington) Even if the manner in which it unfolds is, in the end, fairly pedestrian, the message it strives to make definitely is not.
