All of this is probably my own ignorance rather than any inherent failing in the genre. Nevertheless, my heart sank a bit when my daughter chose to watch this with me, in the dubbed version (again, not my preference) when we sat down to watch a film together. But this historical drama about the founding of a martial arts school during the Sino-Japanese war feels like a good genre entry point for people like me. The fights feel more grounded in reality, the characters more human. Some of the editing feels clumsy, and the historical context only arrives like a late guest after the film's first act; but this I found far more enjoyable and accessible than I expected. Hard for me to judge on its own merits as an example of the genre due to my own failings, but certainly more of a fruitful viewing experience than I expected. Filled with excellently coordinated fighting, a great story set during a war between Japan and China. This movie features one of the greatest fight sequences I've ever seen, I can't imagine someone seeing it and not be captivated. Great martial art film. Ele não se limita apenas às artes marciais, mas também mostra o impacto devastador da invasão japonesa na China, o sofrimento do povo e como a dignidade de Ip Man representa a resistência e resiliência dos chineses. A forma como o filme retrata essa opressão é intensa e emocional, dando mais profundidade à trama e às motivações dos personagens.
