When you're a 7-year-old girl, even a small island like Ustica can seem enormous, and something as simple as buying flowers can become a great adventure. Maria (Arancia Cecilia Grimaldi) wants to get her mother a bunch of irises for her birthday but only has enough money for one, so she sets off to find her father, who works laying bricks somewhere on the island. Along the way, Maria has encounters with the terrifying and fascinating -- a barking dog, sunbathers and, of course, strangers.
