Critics Consensus

It isn't quite the breath of fresh air that Iron Man was, but this sequel comes close with solid performances and an action-packed plot.

Deborah Ross The Spectator If there were any new ideas, I failed to spot them, as did my bone marrow, which slept through most of it anyhow. Aug 30, 2018 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online I don't think the story was nearly as strong as that of The Dark Knight, but it sure was entertaining and surprisingly funny... and sets up The Avengers quite nicely. Rated: B+ Sep 11, 2017 Full Review Nick Pinkerton Village Voice As for the actual grand finale, Downey Jr. and Cheadle seem like they're already network gaming the PS3 release instead of facing any actual threat, and Rourke goes out like a chump. Apr 15, 2013 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It’s a good film; flawed, sure, but we’ve missed this kind of effectively contained storytelling in these movies. Feb 27, 2024 Full Review Anushka Halve Film Companion This corridor fight sequence perfectly encapsulates the character's lethal efficiency, and adds a touch of flair to an already fantastic scene... Dec 11, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The most extraordinary aspect of Iron Man 2 is how it brings together the film’s seemingly unending string of subplots, tightly confined inside a mere 2-hour runtime, and makes the process feel effortless. Henry S While the first thrived due to it's simplicity, Iron Man 2 does the exact opposite and sinks due to an extremely overstuffed story. There just isn't a focus, and when there is, it chooses to focus on the wrong things. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Jorge R Pretty cool sequel. I like the mark 5 and The climax. But everything else is pretty mid. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Mate P Iron Man 2 is more enjoyable than it is good. It's fun to watch, but it's a downgrade from its predecessor. Tony is the same person he was before, but they showed his egotistic side more, which I liked. In the first movie I liked Rhodes more, he feels like a different character. That may be because of the recast, but I think it's mainly because the writer is also different. I liked the antagonist to some extent, but the idea isn't original and he is not menacing. I liked that we got to know more about the SHIELD and Stark Industries' past. The dialogues were a lot less funny. I liked the technical aspects a lot less. There was less practicality and CGI was overused. The cinematography had nothing special to offer. The casting is still great, while the acting performances are good. Iron Man 2 is not as good as the first, but I enjoyed it a lot, because of its likeable characters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Josiah H Look. I didn't necessarily watch the entire movie, but there was a reason for that. The language and sexual content in this film were very inappropriate for a PG 13 film!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Audience Member Muito bom, mas o vilão meia bomba, bem ruizinho e tem coisas que me incomodaram, mas de resto bom. E como sempre, tony stark sendo muito foda Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/06/25 Full Review James E One of the more mediocre mcu movies. Some new characters are welcome additions and some of the action is cool, but it just feels like a stepping stone in the path to something better.
