Audience Member Better than expected. Witnesses provide differing accounts of how a rich Japanese businessman was injured in a Pennsylvania town's abandoned steel mill in a Pennsylvania town. Police chief of the dying town tries to piece together what actually happened through conflicting and often changing statements. Worth a look. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Japanese investor proposing a new amusement park to a shuttered Pennsylvania steel town is seriously injured with three parties providing contradictory stories as to what happened. Had some potential but never really took off and when the investor recovers it all becomes a rather moot point. Executive produced by Oliver Stone. Set in Pittsburgh, the story opens when the son of a Japanese businessman is found beaten to death. The body is discovered in the steel mill just purchased by his father as part of a corporate takeover. The murder is investigated via four different viewpoints, leaving the viewer to decide where the truth lies. With plenty of cinematography highlighting the urban architecture of Pittsburgh, there are many scenes shot in huge, spectacularly creepy industrial locations. Iron Maze has a very classy feel and unique production style. With Bridget Fonda, Gabriel Damon and Jeff Fahey,Iron Maze was released just after the height of the PA steel plant closings. As sub-themes the film offers some insight regarding cultural differences in communication styles as well as examining social issues ancillary to the rash of plant shutdowns during the steel crash. Despite its slightly cerebral tone, there is enough action and suspense to make the movie exciting. Unusual for an American film, Iron Maze is an overlooked and forgotten little gem of a movie that Roshomon fans should see. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A somewhat confusing mess somehow unravels in this film, but it is not an overly interesting watch.
