Robert Abele Los Angeles Times It takes a while, but once the Israeli film "Is That You?" leaves a certain amateurishness behind, it finds a soft, welcoming space for melancholy and connection. Oct 13, 2016 Full Review Ken Jaworowski New York Times Like a funny friend in a melancholy mood, this film has humor at its center, even during its saddest scenes. Aug 25, 2016 Full Review Sam Weisberg Village Voice This is a maudlin, manipulative film, and while it's never aggressively annoying, that's only because it severely lacks energy. Aug 24, 2016 Full Review Nathanael Hood The Young Folks Like so many other wannabe indie darlings, Is That You? attempts to make bold statements about loneliness and love beneath a thin veneer of calculated unconventionality. Rated: 5/10 Aug 31, 2016 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru Clunky, lazy, stilted and implausible. It might as well take place on another planet. Its running time of 80 minutes feels more like 2 hours. Rated: 3.9/10 Aug 27, 2016 Full Review Andy Crump The Playlist Menkin can't bring himself to follow any of the picture's many roads to the end. Audience Member Extraordinarily brilliant indie film. Heartfelt and touching journey through the meaning of life, opportunities lost, regrets, and the hope for a better outcome. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyable. Great soundtrack. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I think the film is very engaging, with it's themes of choices and regrets, and a great performance by the lead, Alon Aboutboul. He really keeps the viewer invested. I'd like to see him in more American films. But the thing I appreciated most about the film was its inherent sense of benevolence. I've seen Danny Menkin's documentaries like Dolphin Boy and they all have a deep sense of humanity. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
