It's the future -- 1973 -- and a rescue team is sent to fetch Col. Edward Carruthers (Marshall Thompson), the lone survivor of the first manned flight to Mars. Though he's slated for the firing squad after ostensibly murdering his entire crew, he insists that a Martian monster is to blame for the deaths. Cmdr. Van Heusen (Kim Spalding) and the team doubt Carruthers' claims, until more mysterious killings occur. To their horror, they realize the bloodthirsty beast is on board the ship with them.

Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl I have to hand it to Cahn and Bixby: this is an incredibly cheaply made film with a laughable premise and yet it’s entertaining to watch if you take it in the right spirit. Rated: 6/10 Nov 16, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Despite being produced on a low budget, it’s an effective thriller. Rated: 3/4 Nov 12, 2023 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault A tad slow, despite being only 69 minutes long, but undeniably fun. Rated: B Nov 29, 2022 Full Review J.C. Maçek III PopMatters As with Alien and Jaws, for example, the most frightening things about this creature are the things that we don't see. Rated: 6/10 Jun 8, 2015 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed It's a wonderful little horror thriller that will whet the appetites of fans that love claustrophobic genre pictures. Oct 9, 2013 Full Review James O'Ehley Sci-Fi Movie Page Unintentionally funny low-budget 'Fifties horror effort. ("Mars is almost as big as Texas," one character thoughtfully muses at a point. "Maybe it's got monsters.") May 11, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Blu B It's not bad actually. This 100% inspired Alien (1979) as it's the exact same setup just done a million times better. The problem is it's B Movie trappings really hold it back. The direction is super basic stuff and the music is pretty generic stuff for a 50's B Movie that you'd expect. Nothing really distinct at all. Everything else is half decent though. The set design can look cheap, the creature is just a rubber suit and it defintely shows, if it were better designed like the Gill Man that would help a lot. Sometime though the black and white looks pretty good and makes things moody and atmospheric, but than it goes right back to looking cheap. It just can't sustain it. Than it just feels like it's one attempt ater another to kill it without really learning anything about the creature that leads to the next thing. Effectively you could rearrange all the ways they try to kill it and not much is changes. The actors blend in for the most part but some stand out more than others and for what it's worth they are trying. It's cool to see a woman on the crew also. I remember some of them but a lot just blend in. There is a very low body count here as well so it's not really horror I'd say but 80-85% Sci-Fi and 10-15% horror. Still very much on the family friendly side. If your a die hard fan of any actors here or 50's B Sci-Fi B Movies this might be worth a watch. Or if your curious to see the precursor to the masterpiece Alien. Most aren't missing much here. Great idea as shown by Ridley Scott, but just not given the love, refinement, and production needed for it to succeed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/13/25 Full Review robert b This is an underrated sci-fi film from the fifties that is dated but still holds up. Take the original movie The Thing and put it on an American spaceship traveling back from Mars and you got it. It scared the crap out of me when I was a kid and that's why I watch it every chance I get. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/25 Full Review Will G I love these old scifi movies, minimal budget but maximum effort from all of concerned. And exploding grenades discharging guns, let's see em do that on spacex, don't make rocketships like that anymore 😉 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/08/25 Full Review Audience Member Fun as hell movie! Great time with this! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/13/25 Full Review Ted B 2.5 stars; A very early version of the "Alien" series. There was some suspense early in the movie; however, the low-budget special effects (rubber suit creature, etc.) spoiled the impact. Overall, a standard 1950s sci-fi film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review CodyZamboni Z Low budget, few sets, Plodding, silly, More interesting for its' plot similarities to Alien Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
