Joe Leydon Variety Ever hear the one about the pic that was too bad to be released, so it escaped? Well, that old joke now has a new punch line: It's Pat, a shockingly unfunny Saturday Night Live spinoff. Mar 13, 2007 Full Review Nell Minow Movie Mom Rated: 1/5 Sep 23, 2004 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times It's Pat offers a simple message of self-acceptance, asserting that what counts is who you are rather than what your gender may or may not be. The trouble is that its telling is truly terrible. Feb 13, 2001 Full Review TV Guide The story goes nowhere, and if the film ran longer than its 80 minutes, it would have become too tedious to tolerate. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 13, 2007 Full Review Frank Ochieng Movie Eye Which is more confusing...Pat's questionable gender or this dud's attempt to force a chuckle from our incredulous faces? Miss T Everyone with a television set should see this film. Is It's Pat the best film you'll ever see? No but it sure is important. It's Pat delves into the unimportance of gender in a way only a female comedian in the 90's could. Charles Rocket gives an outstanding performance as the weirdo neighbour obsessed with Pats biological sex. It'll have you going "What in the name of God is going to happen with this guy next" and is insanely funny. Everyone in the film is performing at the top of their game. The minute you see Julia Sweeney, you laugh. The minute you see Dave Foley, you laugh. There are many very well rounded laugh out loud jokes in the film and the delivery of these jokes is a masterclass in comedy. Where the film looses me is the meanness of Pat in the middle of the film. Although this could be cultural as Americans tend to find more humour in being mean. Citing shows like it's always sunny in Philadelphia as prime example. Speaking of, it could well be cultural as to why I enjoyed the film so much. Playing with gender has a long history of being the height of comedy in my part of the world. All that being said they do become a character that is hard to root for. The middle of the film becomes boring and tedious to me also. There's definitely a version of this movie that's 45 minutes long and the best thing we've ever seen but that begining and end, well it makes it all worth it! It's Pat deserves the height of Praise for doing something that's never been done before and if you want to watch a comedy film the likes of which was never seen and likely we'll never see again It's Pat should be on your radar. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/25 Full Review Louie C Absolutely brilliant. A cult classic! Julia Sweeney is a genius! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/25 Full Review Desiree C This was my all-time favorite movie for decades. I rented it from blockbuster so many times as a child that they eventually sought me out to sell me their copy when they closed. It’s hysterical, Star-studded, absurd, and heartfelt. It also inspired my life-long love of the band Ween. Much like the band, it’s not *usual.* but it is incredible. Anybody who doesn’t like it just needs to watch it with the right people. The power is in the pause. This is a masterpiece film and I would recommend it to anyone. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Sam G One of the most unfunny, uncompelling, and unengaging movies ever made. It has aged to an even worse and completely unenviable position in an era in which non-binary persons have risen to prominence. This is one of those movies that is not so bad it's good, it's just really, really bad. Also, if I could assign a negative score, I would. At least if it were a 5-minute SNL sketch, the misery would only last 5 minutes. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review v o Pat is a TRIUMPH! If they're a he - well o.k. Acting as if he owns his world. The usual. If they're a SHE - FANTASTIC. She enjoys all the rights and privileges of not giving a damn what anyone thinks of her. She doesn't have a problem occupying her own space and being who she is - and finding love to boot! It's Pat and I'm o.k. with that! Also love the California apartment vibe. P. S. - Love you Charles, RIP Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/24 Full Review Sam G This is obviously a one-trick pony. Unfortunately, it's a terrible trick.
