Audience Member Great movie and a great insight into how real life the AIDS epidemic was. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Very sadly forgotten character piece about dealing with AIDS and how it affects everyone who knows a victim of it. The director's lover died the same way the main character did so he made it a passion project and it shows in spades thru the entire film. Very well cast: you get Eric Roberts in his best role besides Runaway Train, you get great performances from Lee Grant, George Segal, Gregory Harrison, Bruce Davison, and Marlee Matlin, you get some solid laughs from Bronson Pinchot and Roddy McDowell, and you get a nice performance from an against her type Margaret Cho. Everyone's great here especially Pinchot and Roberts who imo make the movie work. Pinchot's the comic relief but his final scene was quite sad easily one of his more leveled roles. Robert's family is all well picked especially Matlin who holds her own as the main figure of the family in terms of attention. Grant and especially Segal are just there but Marlee commands the screen. Harrison gives a very layered role as he starts off very unlikeable yet you grow to understand his actions and by the end he has a very Denzel in Philadelphia like spiritual turnaround which is very natural. This is Roberts's movie though make no mistake. In an era where his sister dominated this movie showed the kind of talent he truly had. It's a shame no one much noticed it. Very much recomend this movie; it's as sardonically funny as it is tragic, but it's one the best films on the subject of AIDS. The victim is treated like a human as is everyone else. It's everything I hoped Longtime Companion was but never got. Wish this would get a blu ray release at some point it very much deserves it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm a crying mess. I wasn't expecting so many emotions to flow in me at once. The storyline deserves all the tears and it's strong and makes a statement(somewhat controversial to tell the truth) but it was also filled with more joyful and funny moments and it diffused the tension so much at times that it managed to through me off the tracks. No matter what though, the movie stands for something and by the end it leaves you a crying mess, trying to cling on dear life and move on. The last act was the real core of the story and the part where all emotions break loose. A really well made movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member As terrible as Eric Roberts is, and there's very few actors as bad, he does give his full effort here - but he never stops being Eric Roberts... and that's never a positive. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Kind of an in-your-face sad movie and guaranteed to make you weep, but still a sweet love story... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member A good story. with a stellar cast...stilted acting in parts at the beginning I thought, but it did get better and definitely needed Kleenex by my side at the end. Overall I enjoyed viewing it and discussing it after. Very thought provoking and based on an actual event. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
