      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Coolly performed and suspenseful, Jagged Edge is a satisfying enough potboiler that most audiences won't mind if the twists don't quite add up.

Sebastyen D I knew it was him (Fredo), was hoping for a twist to prove me wrong. Nope, it was him. Je savais que c'était lui, j'espérais un rebondissement pour me prouver que j'avais tort. Mais non, c'était bien lui. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review KB B It was worth a second viewing as I'd seen it decades ago. It a has good acting and storyline. It's worth the watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review The Great John A More of a slightly jagged edge of a smooth butter knife. Jagged edge is a court thriller about the acts of a horrific crime being taken to court and we also have a lawyer love story too which is what a 80's genre like this is not complete without. The twist and acting is what really adds coal to the steam here as the last one mentioned has Primal Fear running for it's money. But really, the film is really lacking that tension that's needed for a court film and I think if it was made in the years we have Anatomy Of A Fall it would be expertly crafted. The film is really cringe in some places but this was due to a 80's backdrop so can't really complain there. The twist is quite decent but I predicted it unfortunately and the impact from the end really did not leave that payoff. Overall after the dust settles Jagged edge is very ingenuitive in terms of the two aspects above. But without those boosts it is a court thriller that is worst at worst. Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel The biggest fault of Jagged Edge is that whatever suspense it manages to generate in its climactic scenes is achieved artificially, through tricky editing and manipulative ''danger'' music. Jun 12, 2013 Full Review Variety Staff Variety A well-crafted, hardboiled mystery. Feb 11, 2008 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader The wholesome cast completely obliterates the unstated perversities that have been this genre's reason for being. Feb 11, 2008 Full Review Steve Warren Bay Area Reporter It's mostly preposterous but juicy fun. Apr 30, 2020 Full Review Kathi Maio Sojourner It is the visual ambiguity, the murkiness of the cinematography, that is often maddening. Aug 21, 2019 Full Review Sean Collier Box Office Prophets Close - who was not nominated for this role, despite earning nods the prior three years - is a supreme heroine, endlessly watchable and perfectly sincere.
