      What to know

      Critics Consensus

Fans can expect a good laugh as the cast from Smith's previous films reunite for Jay and Silent Bob's last bow. The loose plotting and crude language may be too much for others though. Read critic reviews

Horrendous. There's just nothing really likeable about this film. The characters aren't funny, the comedy falls short, and the plot is uninteresting and predictable. Plus there's Ben Affleck and an extremely unfunny Will Ferrell. I'm not a fan of Ferrell's but he usually brings some comedic talent to the table; he's absolutely dreadful here. What's not to like about this film? Everything. The quick references to the clerks characters just make me want to watch those films.

"A Jay and Silent Bob movie? Who'd pay to see that?" Kevin Smith ends his View Askiewverse film series by giving his signature characters their own film in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. When they learn that a movie is being made about their comic book characters, Jay and Silent Bob head off to Hollywood in order to stop the film from being made. The supporting cast is pretty strong and includes Will Ferrell, Eliza Dushku, Shannon Elizabeth, and Ben Affleck, plus a number of actors from Smith's other films make cameos. However, the script is awful and doesn't know what to do with the characters. And the plot is chaotic, moving from gag to gag without much logic or reason. Some of the comedy works, but Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a train wreck that does a huge disservice to the world that Kevin Smith created.

The constant sarcastic and humorous pop-culture references along with the profane dialogue is decent (and at times much). But Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back isn't as powerful a strike as anticipated with its wildly out-of-place plot. 3.5/5

We get direct confirmation from actors in the movie that it's a bad movie... in fact they talk about bad movies and then look directly at the camera as if they're telling the audience, "Yes, you are watching a bad movie." It's things like that plus all of the hilarious cameos from George Carlin to Mark Hamill that make this comedy a great time. The rap that Jason Mewes does in the beginning is the defining scene of the movie, and it got stuck in my head. And of course, there's Kevin Smith as Silent Bob who is also funny when he speaks (even if it is extremely rare). Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a very stupid movie, but there's no denying how funny it is.
