In 1920s Russia, jazz is considered by many to be a bourgeois form of music and is not encouraged. Despite this prevailing mood, a group of young musicians, including Konstantin (Igor Sklyar), Ivan (Pyotr Shcherbakov) and Georgi (Nikolay Averyushkin), are determined to make a living playing jazz. While the band struggles to find gigs, they manage to perform for small audiences here and there, intent on bringing their beloved American-rooted music to the Soviet masses.
