Kimber Myers Crooked Marquee ... The final scenes reveal exactly how special of a film writer-director Morrisa Maltz has made, and just how outsized its emotional impact is with its tale of a girlhood friendship. Rated: B+ Mar 1, 2025 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (LAist) It's just wonderful. It put me in the mind of Andrea Arnold's films. Feb 11, 2025 Full Review Elizabeth Weitzman TheWrap At 80 minutes, the film is both leisurely paced and fully packed, so that when it ends we’ve spent the perfect amount of time with these beautiful girls. Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Jazzy is a beautifully filmed cinematic portrait of girlhood, friendships, and learning to deal with life's unexpected events. Some viewers might be bored by this drama's meandering qualities, but the kid conversations are very authentic. Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Once again there is a shaggy, handmade feel to Maltz’s film, which is likely due to her unique filmmaking style, which includes a lose outline rather than any strict scripting. Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Manuel Betancourt FilmWeek (LAist) At times I was really taken with it and at times it was hard not to realize it was doing the same thing over and over again, but this is just what childhood is. SkyRo P "Jazzy" is a film that was produced in 2024 and made its way to streaming platforms in 2025. While it may find its place on these services, it’s clear that this is not a movie suited for theaters. The decision to release it online was a wise one; however, the fact that viewers need to pay to access it is unfortunate, as it simply isn’t worth the cost. The storyline revolves around two young girls, but the portrayal of the characters is reminiscent of the Muppet Babies style, where only their bodies are visible, and their faces are rarely shown unless they are children. After watching the film for an hour and 25 minutes, I still struggled to grasp its overall message. The only clear plot point I retained is that one girl has to move away due to her parents' conflicts. At its core, the film depicts two best friends whose mothers are at odds, leading one mother to relocate and consequently sever the friendship. To be frank, it's a poorly executed movie with no clear direction. The direction is lackluster, the storytelling feels disjointed, and the plot is so muddled that it's hard to summarize anything meaningful about it. In the end, it feels like a regrettable expenditure. Although seven dollars might not seem like a significant amount, it could have been better spent on something far more entertaining. Unfortunately, "Jazzy" offers little to no enjoyment, leaving viewers disappointed.
