matthias s "Jim Jefferies: High n' Dry" is my first proper experience with Jefferies, having only known him from name and a few TV appearances. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but his knack for storytelling, especially when it comes to his private life, really impressed me. The bit about "The Bachelorette" had me laughing, and even when the punchlines didn’t always land, Jefferies’ delivery kept me hooked. His relaxed, conversational style made it all enjoyable. I especially loved the segments about Greta Thunberg and the koalas—hilarious and a bit cheeky. The show never dragged, and it stayed engaging throughout, even in its slower moments. He is still very enjoyable to watch thanks to his laid-back style of delivery and his good jokes, and it's also nice to see that he hasn't resorted to being a boomer in front of thousands of people like his colleagues Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais. The bits on either side of the nearly 15 minute trans rant are salvageable, some even approach the concept of comedy, but largely this felt like an "edgy" comic screaming into the void. "They cut the dick off, then scoop out the innards with a spoon," is a paraphrased quote directly from the special.
