Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times It makes fans of the original "Police Story" franchise wistful for the mundane locales but extraordinary daredevil stunt work of yore. Jun 4, 2015 Full Review Adam Nayman AV Club This is a very poorly paced and structured movie, cutting between time periods to fill in the sort of convoluted backstory that a leaner, more propulsive piece of pulp probably wouldn't bother with in the first place. Rated: C Jun 4, 2015 Full Review Scott Tobias The Dissolve This is a grittier Jackie Chan largely because it has to be, but a depressing sign that there simply aren't many tools left in the box. Rated: 2/5 Jun 4, 2015 Full Review James Mudge easternKicks.com A reasonable action film from Mainland China, and one which should just about satisfy Jackie Chan fans, if not fulfil their dreams of seeing him return to his glory days Rated: 3/5 Nov 1, 2020 Full Review Colin Biggs Movie Mezzanine 'Police Story: Lockdown' was supposed to be a star vehicle, but a vehicle that doesn't let its star shine is of no use to anyone. Rated: D Jun 6, 2015 Full Review Fred Topel Nerd Report Chan looks sufficiently grizzled as Zhong Wen with a buzz cut and more than one Lethal Weapon moment. Jun 5, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

Sameir A Following the New Police Story, this film get's even worse. This film has really nothing to do with the Police Story film series, other than he is a police officer. But, consider as the last installation of the series. This is like a Die Hard starring Jackie Chan, it was too dragging. So many twists in the end that was too much for the audience, and it was not well cooked. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/21 Full Review Audience Member Worst in the series!it was disappointment although last half hour was exciting and entertaining apart from that it's a boring mess!the music was good, acting was decent, story is shit the whole 1st half was build-up for some surprise it was boring and felt like random stuff happening and above that the flashbacks were confusing AF the main reveal at last was little surprising but the impact was missing, the main thing in Police story the action was like for minutes that too wasn't that great it was decent as per the age of JC but the serious and dark tone like prequel and above that messy story it wasn't that engaging although the 2nd half deal of JC and past incident reveal with the emotional touch and intense end it was good 2nd half and its the reason for little extra rating leaving the 2nd half and reveal this movie was literally Garbage,As per end the reveal and case was engaging but the build-up and 1st half was shitty mess.Overall A Okay movie! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member While it is true that this is a much toned down Jackie Chan movie, with far less spectacular stunts and action then we are used to. Also, it is a much darker character than we are used to seeing from him, with no jokes or physical pratfalls. However, these absences allow for the opportunity to find new things to appreciate, and there are a few in this movie. There is a good use of Chan's limited physical repertoire to maintain the action genre, and the use of quick flashback allows for a good flow without the cumbersome lengthy backstory narrative typical of many movies. There is a little too much slow motion camera work, and the condensed set makes the fiolm feel claustrophobic. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Dumb and boring and I hated the editing. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I disagree entirely with the ratings this film received on RT. I thought it was GREAT. It's definitely more cerebral - so those who want the eye popping action of Jackie Chan's youth or the comedic antics and stunts of his middle years may be disappointed. It is heavy on the dialogue, but was well acted and Chan did an outstanding job of playing the role. Really tugged at my heart in places. Reviews on Amazon are much more positive. And I agree more with Ebert's positive review of this film (which is not included in the critic section below, surprisingly). This is a serious, hard acting job and had enough surprises and tear jerk moments to make me buy it (after having watched it on youtube). I want to keep this one in my library. Deserves a look, especially if you have come to enjoy jackie's third act style of more serious roles. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Weak fifth Police Story film, has Jackie as yet another police detective and in a film with a decidedly darker tone. The first Police Story was a departure for Jackie by having a contemporary setting and less slapstick. The next three films got progressively more silly, but the fifth film in 2004 rebooted the series with Jackie playing a different character and had a more serious of tone. This sixth film again reboots the series with Jackie playing yet another different police detective and an even darker and more serious of tone. The story here has a glum Jackie negotiating a hostage situation in a nightclub that happens to have his estranged daughter inside and a villain who has a personal vendetta against him. It's a very contrived and unbelievable story that's made worse with absurd set-pieces involving torture chairs, cage fights, and exploding collars. These would work in a typically lighter Jackie Chan vehicle, but it doesn't in this decidedly grim action film. Still, who really watches a Jackie Chan film for the story? It's all about the fights, action, and stunt work, right? Jackie does deliver some solid action sequences, but there's a dearth of action sequences compared to most of his films, and it's much to the detriment of this film. I'm fine with Jackie taking time out for some drama ("Heart of the Dragon" is a terrific film!), but it has to be interesting and somewhat grounded in reality. This Die Hard revenge film manages to be plodding, unbelievable, and way too dialogue heavy, with characters launching into boring monologues far too many times. Still, there's enough action to make this overly serious mess worth watching for Jackie fans. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
