Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It’s memoir with a buoyant bite too as Mulaney tests the audience to see if they’re taking in the ramifications of his finely honed observations. Very funny, very telling. May 11, 2023 Full Review Carrie Battan The New Yorker A special that emphasizes just how measured and scrupulous a joke writer he is. May 2, 2023 Full Review Proma Khosla indieWire “Baby J” will charm new and old fans -- while never letting them lose sight of the flawed, fallible human being at its center. Apr 26, 2023 Full Review Sarah Marrs Lainey Gossip The best comedy is a mirror held up to uncomfortable reality, and in Baby J John Mulaney holds up a mirror to addiction—the messiness, the imperfection, the failure and embarrassment, but also the liberation of survival. Jun 3, 2023 Full Review Bruce R. Miller Sioux City Journal While “Baby J’s” honesty is admirable, we can only hope it’s lasting. Even in this dark world, John Mulaney’s too good to lose. Rated: 3.5/4 May 16, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …self-destructive drug use is no laughing matter, but John Mulaney’s stand-up ably shows the funny side of addiction; just don’t try this at home unless you’re super-rich…. Jill S We all are rooting for Mulaney for some reason (his hair? his suits? his "vulnerability?"), but this special is not special. Unoriginal, not funny; I predicted 80% of every punchline. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review matthias s John Mulaney: Baby J is a hilarious and refreshing comedy special that showcases the comedic genius of John Mulaney. The special follows Mulaney's return to the stage after a tumultuous couple of years, which saw him go through his drug addiction, an intervention and his stay in rehab. Mulaney's sharp wit and impeccable timing are on full display as he delves into a range of topics, from his time in rehab to his experiences as a new father. His ability to find humor in even the most difficult situations is truly remarkable, and it's clear that he's in top form throughout the special. One of the standout moments of the special comes when Mulaney delves into his struggles with addiction, which he addresses with a candid and unflinching approach that is both poignant and hilarious. He is able to balance the gravity of the situation with his signature wit and humor, making for a truly memorable and impactful performance. John Mulaney: Baby J is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates smart, sharp, and side-splittingly funny comedy. Mulaney's return to the stage is nothing short of triumphant, and he proves once again why he's one of the most talented and beloved comedians of his generation. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/09/23 Full Review Jens B I could listen to this man for many more hours. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/11/23 Full Review KY G Maybe the best comedy special of the year. Mulaney is masterful in dealing with the large white coked up elephant in the room. His tone may be darker, but the story telling is on point and his words ring authentic. Absolute must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/23 Full Review Lindsey Until this show, I believed John Mullaney to be one of the most insightful stand up comedians of his generation. Almost two hours of whining about his intervention and stint in rehab. I didn't laugh once. I hope he gets his edge back while maintaining his sobriety. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/17/23 Full Review Anthony T I'm a longtime fan, so very bias but I enjoyed lots. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
