Alex Timbers
A graduate of Yale University and a native New Yorker, writer and director Alex Timbers began his career in the theater. In 2005 Timbers worked as the assistant director on the Broadway premiere of the smash hit musical Jersey Boys. Timbers and his colleague Michael Friedman co-wrote the show Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, and began workshopping it in 2007. The performance opened at the Public Theater in NYC under Timbers' directorship in 2009. It was well received by critics and audiences. By 2018 it was the second highest grossing show in the theater's history. The show moved to Broadway the following year in September and closed in early January, which was blamed on the poor economy. In 2013 and 2014 Timbers directed Here Lies Love. The musical was a collaboration between David Byrne and Fatboy Slim and was a concept show based on the wife of Imelda Marcos, the former First Lady of the Philippines. The show again opened at the Public Theater before moving to London's National Theater, still under the directorship of Timbers. In 2012 Timbers co-directed the Broadway show Peter and the Starcatcher with Roger Rees. The show won five Tony Awards, and its run was extended three times. In 2016 Timbers became one of the co-creators and Executive Producers of the Amazon original series "Mozart in the Jungle" (Amazon, 2014-18). The series won the 2016 Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy. Timbers was also the Artistic Director of the NYC theater company Les Freres Corbusier.
