Johnny Allegro (George Raft) trades in his life as a mobster to become an undercover agent for the government. His assignment is to investigate the mysterious Glenda Chapman (Nina Foch). After gaining her confidence by pretending to kill a police officer, Johnny persuades her to let him follow her to an island hideaway. Once there, Johnny discovers that her associate -- a counterfeiter named Morgan Vallin (George Macready) -- is about to inundate the States with a massive flow of fake cash.

Frances G Thought it was pretty damn classic noir, by my standards. Great direction, cinematography. Give me lots of dark shadowy well-shot alleys, and I am in! Never thought of Foch as a bad girl, ( or MacCready as a jealous husband) so that was fun! All the performances were perfect. As stiff as Raft is, gotta appreciate how he makes it work! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Audience Member George Raft is an ex-gangsters who helps the FBI bring down a counterfeiting operation run by the villainous George Macready. The film starts out like a typical noir picture, but then takes an odd turn near the end when it becomes The Most Dangerous Game/Hart Target with Macready hunting down Raft. Although it's not a classic noir or adventure film, the bizarro mix of the hammy Macready and the always still Raft, the film works in a bizarre sort of way.
