Artie B I just viewed this film again for the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. From Wikipedia: {After its theater run in 1957, the film was shown in its entirety on television in two episodes (in color, then known as The Wonderful World of Disney), rather than as a complete film on a single evening, on November 21 and 28, 1958.} I was 5 YO and saw this that way for the first time. I have seen it many times through the years thanks to Disney Entertainment. As I have gotten older, I realize the hokeyness of it. the acting in it. It's Disney for crying out loud!! It was made for all family viewers of the year 1957. Sadly, a very patriotic conservative era. Still, I have loved this movie ever since. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/23/24 Full Review s r I have been wanting to see this for some time, but it eluded me until I found it at the library on DVD in STG. The story is an important one to tell and I credit Disney for taking an interest in paying tribute to our Founding Fathers. However, this sadly struggled with a good narrative that didn't slow down. It felt more like a made for TV movie for its shortfalls, despite some very good content. I did enjoy learning more about Boston's struggle for independence, its key people and some strategies involved. I would watch it again, despite the shortcomings. I even watched all the special features on the Sons of Liberty, James Otis and the intros to the TV feature. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review steve d At one point it may have worked as a kids film now it just doesn't work. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review r 9 A dull watch, at least for me. I honestly didn't find any of 'Johnny Tremain' entertaining, even though it isn't anything atrocious at all. The plot is pretty straightforward, while the editing and acting isn't the best. It's all a bit of a bore, sadly. Sebastian Cabot gives the most notable performance as Jonathan Lyte, he'll likely be the only cast member that I'll remember. Hal Stalmaster isn't bad in the titular role, he's just a little wooden. The premise is, as already noted, very simple, but that actually isn't a criticism of mine. The main things I don't like are the way it's all shot and how it's acted/spoke - no particularly huge complaints, just numerous little annoyances that add up. There is, at least, a catchy song in Liberty Tree. 2½*, marginally. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If I could give this 0 stars I would because this is hands down the worst movie ever. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Love it. Every bit as educational as it is entertainment. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
