Amanda Jane Stern Film Inquiry While not the most radical film, due to its wonderful direction and strong performances, it takes a well-worn story of self-acceptance and turns it into a beautiful piece of internal struggle. Nov 5, 2019 Full Review Alexander Ryll Gay Essential Boys (Jongens) beautifully portrays the inner struggle of a character coming to terms with his sexuality and not how he's influenced and pressured by his surroundings, and it leaves on a positive note... or at least a hopeful one. Bob L Completely predictable and depressingly tasteful, it seems like most of these shirtless Dutch boys are capable of emotional depths this film forbids them from displaying. It's been almost 20 years now since A Beautiful Thing and, while the cinematography of Boys is certainly more elegant, it wastes a lot of time hammering out the introverted awkwardness of these characters rather than getting us to a place where we feel moved by or for them. In other circumstances (like a short film), this might read as sweet, but the questionable resolution here--along with all the opportunities this film has to develop these characters yet runs the other way--just feels bland. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Sean F from my experiences , this is by far the best representation of the pressure and angst of knowing how you feel, but afraid of it, and trying to fit in as a teenager, all at the same time. The acting and directing are truly amazing, the interaction of the 2 boys is heartwarming and heartbreaking. i have watched it several times, and it is truly a remarkable film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review Francois H Fantastic acting. Characters feel real and relatable. The story is a sincere telling of youth experience. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/03/23 Full Review Marc Sexual awakening, inner turmoil, family dynamics and in the end self acceptance are the over riding themes of this film, not ground breaking but done very well, thoroughly enjoyable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/07/23 Full Review Paul G I adore this film and its sweet understated story about two teenage boys Marc and Sieger who develop feelings for each other which quickly transcends mere friendship. Perfectly cast with Gijs Blom as Sieger and Ko Zandvliet as Marc. These actors are remarkable as they beautifully capture the complicated emotions of two boys falling in love. The coming of age plot is simple and dialogue between the two leads is sparse and yet these young actors beautifully convey their intense emotions nonverbally. Gijs Blom's performance is stunning as he perfectly portrays Siegers inner conflict as he sorts through his feelings for Marc and ultimately recognizes that he can't fight his true desires. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/06/23 Full Review mike v Jongens (English title: Boys) is a 2014 Dutch made-for-television coming-of-age romantic drama film directed by Mischa Kamp 🏊‍♀️ It's ok, but I feel mixed about this one 😉 I'd recommend it if you like this genre, but if not then probably give it a miss 👍🏼👎🏼 D Very slow paced HOW DOES IT FEEL TO WIN A RACE WHEN YOU KNOW YOU LOST A LOVE?
