A simple, but beautiful made-for-TV film about a gentle coming out story. Credit Marc for being so patient with Steiger, though; that boy is a mess! Go to Full Review
Amanda Jane Stern Film Inquiry 11/05/2019
While not the most radical film, due to its wonderful direction and strong performances, it takes a well-worn story of self-acceptance and turns it into a beautiful piece of internal struggle. Go to Full Review
Alexander Ryll Gay Essential 09/15/2019
Boys (Jongens) beautifully portrays the inner struggle of a character coming to terms with his sexuality and not how he's influenced and pressured by his surroundings, and it leaves on a positive note... or at least a hopeful one. Go to Full Review

Robyn R Dec 2 After someone suggested this to me, I gave it a try. There’s lots of longing looks but no meaningful dialogue. Sieg kisses Marc and then flakes on their date and ends up pushing him. Then pretends not to know him. And in the end they ride off into the sunset-which to some would be great but for me I’m left wondering what just happened. I wanted to know their inner thoughts. See more Jacob R Mar 2 A gorgeous movie - super well shot, well acted and leaves you with feeling. The central relationship between the two boys is earnest and tender and sweet which I love See more Edorah F 11/30/2024 What a beautiful film. These young actors are so sincere and believable. See more Bob L 03/22/2024 Completely predictable and depressingly tasteful, it seems like most of these shirtless Dutch boys are capable of emotional depths this film forbids them from displaying. It's been almost 20 years now since A Beautiful Thing and, while the cinematography of Boys is certainly more elegant, it wastes a lot of time hammering out the introverted awkwardness of these characters rather than getting us to a place where we feel moved by or for them. In other circumstances (like a short film), this might read as sweet, but the questionable resolution here--along with all the opportunities this film has to develop these characters yet runs the other way--just feels bland. See more Sean F 12/05/2023 from my experiences , this is by far the best representation of the pressure and angst of knowing how you feel, but afraid of it, and trying to fit in as a teenager, all at the same time. The acting and directing are truly amazing, the interaction of the 2 boys is heartwarming and heartbreaking. i have watched it several times, and it is truly a remarkable film.
