Derek Malcolm Guardian Jubilee may not be a very good film. But the fact that it exists at all is a kind of justification in the present circumstances. Feb 23, 2023 Full Review Lee Broughton PopMatters It would be easy to dismiss Jubilee as being an opportunistic mess but, with auteurs like Jarman, the default presumption is that everything onscreen is intentional and everything has some kind of meaning. Rated: 6/10 Oct 12, 2018 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews One of the more bleak but imaginative nihilist films to come out of England in the 1970s. Rated: B Feb 9, 2012 Full Review Ian Berriman SFX Magazine Flawed but fascinating, deliriously self-indulgent and perverse, it's the cinematic equivalent of having a mouthful of bile gobbed in your eye. Jun 1, 2010 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 3/5 Aug 10, 2005 Full Review Rumsey Taylor Not Coming to a Theater Near You The film stands as an exemplar of its origin era, both undeniably bold and alienating. ravik c An absolute masterpiece by Vikramaditya Motwane. The direction and character handling is phenomenal with deep, dark layers hidden behind the outer personas. The music and cinematography add the right touches to the bygone era of pre - post independence and old school Indian cinema. And the final dressing or rather the crowning glory is attributed to the top notch performances from the cast. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A jubilee is a special anniversary of an event, especially one celebrating twenty-five or fifty years of a reign or activity But this is anything but that as Queen Elizabeth I is actually transported to the future 400 years seeing a more apocalyptic version of her country England is desolate, crime-ridden, filled with corruption and filled with deceased citizens A guerilla crime gang lead by women run things called the Monarch of Punk Elizabeth tries to interpret the signs of anarchic modernity around them This definitely isn't a pleasant watch as there's violence and debauchery Not much of a focused plot Yet it is bleak and imaginative nihilism in terms of Britain cinema The world is no longer interested in heroes but maybe more change Not one of the best things I've watched but different enough Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review ashley h Jubilee is a disappointing film. It is about Queen Elisabeth I who travels 400 years into the future to witness the appalling revelation of a dystopian London. Jenny Runacre and Adam Ant give horrible performances. The script is badly. Derek Jarman did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Alex O What a complete load of drivel. One of the worst films i ever saw. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/22 Full Review Audience Member I love how phantasmagorical this is. Its subculture penetrates deeper than its static "punk" "cult classic" label /put-down and confuses stereotypes with the transhistorical. It has to be paralleled that Ariel serves as both its Shakespearean root of androgynous mysticism and also a 20th century queer figure with pupils big as if on MDMA. It seems to align this highness with holiness. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review jimi l Wayne(now Jayne) County steals the show with "Paranoia Paradise".
