As good-looking as the movie is, it's not enough to change my mind: this is one of the worst films of 2018. An excellent cast, some mind-blowing CGI, and a great director... all wasted due to an extremely flawed screenplay and paper-thin new characters.

Unsurprising plot paired with surface level characterisation. I wasn't surprised when the 'right-hand secretary who's heir to a rich man's fortune' turned out to be evil and eliminates his predecessor for personal gain. Nor when the 'nerdy computer genius' constantly complains about his fear of dinosaurs (he tells, not shows to the audience) while also being a device for 'comedic' one liners. We also don't get an in-depth exploration of Claire and Owen's development over the years after the ending of the previous movie. We should've seen relating themes in their characterisation to connect more to them instead of having them pass as the 'cool MCs that have everything conveniently handed to them at the time of peril'. This movie does a lot while also giving us nothing to talk about except how the producers flopped and milked the cash cow that is the Jurassic Park franchise. Lastly, please stop overusing the screaming female sound effect. There's something misogynistic about it.
