Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald The style is not quite neo-realism, but that is the main ingredient, with large amounts of Tamil flavour. Rated: 3/5 Nov 20, 2015 Full Review David Stratton The Australian As directed by M. Manikandan, this is a simple, straightforward but very charming film that succeeds in glossing over the real problems involved in the lives of India's slum dwellers in favour of a sugar-coated feel-good exercise. Rated: 3/5 Nov 20, 2015 Full Review Namrata Joshi Outlook There are laughs, joys and wonderment for life's little desires. Rated: 3/4 Jun 12, 2015 Full Review Mythily Ramachandran Gulf News (UAE) Without a star cast or exotic locations, here is a director who dared to present a simple story, without trapping himself in the regular mould of Tamil cinema. Feb 20, 2020 Full Review James Marsh South China Morning Post The light-hearted and witty script ... incorporates everything from political corruption to media manipulation, painting a rich and vibrant portrait of the contemporary Indian experience. Audience Member A beautiful, heart-warming story with wonderful twists and turns. Some lovely humour, a little irony, plenty of warmth. Well acted, sensitively directed, this film entertains from beginning to end. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed this film. Slow moving but I liked the ending and the messages it gets across. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member M. Manikandan's "Kaaka Muttai" is a genre film about childhood and the desire to achieve something. The finest cinema moves something inside you. By the end, my heart was pierced and I was moved from inside. This is a terrific film not only because of it's wonderful craft, but because of primarily Vignesh and Ramesh- the junior and senior 'Crow eggs'. They are immensely enjoyable in frankly a perfect film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Entertaining and not preachy.
