Kaantha is a stylishly filmed but bloated noir murder mystery about a film director and his movie star 'frenemy' as suspects in the death of their leading actress. The movie's ending drags on for too long, but it's an intriguing story. Go to Full Review

Kaantha is a beautifully mounted film with stellar performances and exceptional technical brilliance, even if the writing falters along the way. Go to Full Review

Kaantha, much like the film industry it is set in, has much to offer in terms of dizzying fame, passionate affairs and unchecked ego. However, the highs and lows of the film seem starkly in contrast, also much like the industry it is set in. Go to Full Review

A compelling watch for its performances and first-half brilliance, but a frustrating one for what it ultimately leaves on the table. Go to Full Review

Amid all the narrative flaws, Kaantha is saved by its superlative technical prowess, particularly the director’s staging of the scenes with a clear idea of how to make the best use of the visual language. Go to Full Review

Ultimately, Kaantha is a beautifully mounted vehicle, driven by a career-best performance from Dulquer Salmaan, but one whose tires deflate when it hits the tricky, unpredictable road of the murder mystery genre. Go to Full Review

Harish N @harish_napa 2d Kaantha had the potential to be something impactful, but unfortunately, it ends up being disappointing. The concept feels promising on paper, yet the movie fails to translate that into an engaging or meaningful experience. The biggest drawback is the weak storyline. The narrative lacks depth and coherence, making it difficult to stay invested. Scenes feel disconnected, and the pacing drags without offering any strong payoff. Despite a few moments where the film hints at what it could have been, those moments are far too limited. Performances don’t stand out enough to elevate the material, and the emotional beats don’t land as intended. The movie never really pulls the viewer in, which makes the runtime feel longer than it should. Overall, Kaantha feels like a case of wasted potential. It’s watchable if you’re curious, but there’s very little here that leaves a lasting impression. See more Adarsh T @Adarsh0903 Dec 13 When the role is vintage Dulquer Wins. He owns Vintage. Retro Star Dulquer Salman. Kaantha Movie Synopsis: A legendary director and his star actor clash over creative control during a 1950s film production. Kaantha Movie Review: Cinema about cinema tends to collapse under its own self-awareness, but Kaantha sidesteps that trap by treating its 1950s film set less like a nostalgic museum piece and more like a cage match dressed in period clothes. Director Selvamani Selvaraj constructs what amounts to a Shakespearean tragedy, where ego, ambition, and betrayal play out against the backdrop of a troubled production. Despite reports linking it to the life of M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, the film is mercifully fictional, a creation that borrows perhaps a detail or two but otherwise invents its own disaster. Jakes Bejoy's score does heavy lifting. Sometimes commitment beats cleverness. One Word Review: World Class Cinema. Verdict: Vintage Blockbuster. Selvamani Selvaraj does a fine job in capturing between Dulquer and Samuthrikani. The psychological drama plays out well but the murder mystery involving Bhagyashri Borse falls flat. The secondary characters don't have enough substance, and the interpersonal dynamics needed much better writing. My full review available in own website rigoberthareviews.com See more Lucky01 Nov 16 Kaantha really succeeds in capturing the feel of old-school Indian period cinema. In terms of performances, Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani completely steal the show. Bhagyashri Borse and Rana Daggubati are good as well, and the rest of the cast do justice to their roles. The songs work really well when watched in the theatre. The background score is perfect and adds a lot to the period-drama atmosphere. Cinematography is clean and visually pleasing. The production quality and technical work are solid throughout. Both the first and second halves are engaging. However, the slow pace and long runtime make it feel a bit tiring at times.
