Mr A This is a fantastic Lalettan classic despite the sad ending. It's based of real life events that took place a long time ago back in the early 20th Century. I gotta say that Lalettan truly deserves the Kerala State Film for Best Actor as his performance in this movie is very impactful. The lives of Indian prisoners were very crucial as they suffered lots of pain while fighting for India our beloved country. Now about Lalettan's character Govardhan, he's a doctor was wrongly accused of a crime that he did not commit which was bombing a steam engine carrying 55 people on the train. He's transported to Kaalapani which is the Cellular Jail in Port Blair which is located on the South Andaman Island. Most of the guards there are very cruel, particularly David Berry the Irish guard and Mirza Khan the bald headed and bearded Indian guard. However, there's the Len Hutton the kind hearted Enligh Doctor and Ahmed Kuuty the kind hearted Indian patriot guard. Being wrongly accused of a heinous crime is absolutely terrible and I feel sorry for Govardhan as it happened to him. The prison feels more like a slaughter house as the prisoners are treated like animals. There's this scene in which David Berry burns Govardhan's back along with the backs of two other prisoners with a ironer. In the same scene, David says "I can burn people alive and no one will question me. I can even eat the roasted flesh of those who defy me and still no one will question me" which speaks volumes of his cruelty. The prison food looks disgusting and filthy. Govardhan kills both Berry and Mirza Khan but he's hanged to death as his own punishment. Sethu, who is Govardhan's nephew is searching for Govardhan's whereabouts years later and soon discovers that he died. Parvathy who is Govardhan's wife has been waiting for Govardhan for years. Sethu lies to his aunt saying that he met Govardhan and that they talked about her. Even though it's difficult, honesty is the best policy. Yes, I understand that Parvathy is now a widow but it's still best to tell the truth. I know that Sethu had good intentions for lying but I still recommend that everyone avoids lying as much as possible because I've learnt that it's better to hurt someone with the truth than to comfort them with a lie.
