Owen Gleiberman Variety You wish this portrait of Japan's rice-wine elixir were half as intoxicating as its subject. Aug 20, 2016 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times Crisp if feather-light ... Aug 18, 2016 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times An occasionally enlightening if long-winded primer that will prove best suited to connoisseurs. Aug 18, 2016 Full Review Edmund Lee South China Morning Post The best way to screen this might well be as an infomercial at sake conventions, where viewers are free to sample minutes-long clips set against an incessant soundtrack of bland, easy-listening music. Rated: 1.5/5 Jul 19, 2017 Full Review Andrea Chase Killer Movie Reviews A paean to more than just rice wine. It is a consideration of tradition in transition and the wondrous possibilities that being open to new ways can engender. Audience Member 12/12/16 Amazon Streaming A good movie but much more about the personalities and back stories of the main individuals and their distilleries and not enough education on sake. I would have liked more information on how the end product is produced, some tips on drinking like warm, room temperature or cool, what some of the best brands that are available in the US are and if there is significant taste difference among the various brands. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Not very well-made, but given the paucity of movies about sake, I am willing to forgive. Best enjoyed with a bottle of nihonshu.
