      Critics Consensus

Although Kandisha engages unevenly with its more thought-provoking aspects, it remains viscerally effective as a memorably brutal slasher.

Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting This supernatural slasher may not offer anything new, but it does keep you entertained thanks to its characters, a fantastic looking entity, and some bone-crushing, ultra-violent deaths. Rated: 3/5 Aug 22, 2021 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Even at a slim 85 minutes, directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury take too long to get to the meat and gristle of this "Candyman-"like meal, but once they open the floodgates of terror they more than earn their gore gold medal... Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 2, 2021 Full Review Katie Rife AV Club The issue is, this evocative villain and vicious point of view are placed in a generic teen-horror context. Rated: C+ Jul 23, 2021 Full Review Andrew Winter Vague Visages Bustillo and Maury are masters of the slow build, and so it goes in Kandisha, which becomes incrementally nastier and gorier with each new victim the vengeful spirit eliminates… Mar 25, 2024 Full Review Milagros Amondaray La Nación (Argentina) [Kandisha] is another misstep by the French filmmakers within a genre that, at this point, they should already feel comfortable enough to create their own world, detached from an endless number of influences that lead to pastiche. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 2/5 Oct 12, 2023 Full Review Witney Seibold Critically Acclaimed Podcast Kandisha herself becomes increasingly terrifying as her plan for revenge expands, but it's the horrors of the immigrant experience that rest at the heart of the film. Thom G "Kandisha" falls short by recycling old ideas without adding anything fresh, especially with such a thin and clichéd plot. It becomes repetitive, predictable, and ultimately boring. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Courtney K yeah idk; i really like the idea & execution of the monster itself, but the rest of it was really just "meh" so it wasn't nearly as effective as it should've been. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/02/23 Full Review Valerii Ege D Despite its frightening character, unfortunately, Kandisha can not achieve its purpose, at least for me, due to the weakness of the editing and the story. There is a valuable and frightening cultural fear object to use, but the point is how to use it. Kandisha, can not use it properly. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/22 Full Review Audience Member Bland, uninspired and conventional. This wannabe Candyman only retains the basics but not the cleverness. Tries to set up a new boogeyman but fails miserably in doing so. There is no building of tension at any moments, not even jump scares instead you get just a few gory shots. On an interesting premise manages to forgo its social commentary for basic teen horror. Not that terrible but not even good, just passable. Another fail for what use to be a promising duo of directors in the genre. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review brad p Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury's ‘Kandisha' Delivers Ultra-Violent But Familiar Supernatural Slasher Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It's fair to say I will watch anything from this classic horror duo writer-director team. It's hard to top Inside and Livid, but this was a pretty horror movie that failed to break any boundaries and failed to give the right amount of 'care factor' towards its fodder. Bit harsh on the bunnies though. For the full review see Mother of Movies at vanessasnonspoilers.com Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
