What to Know

Critics Consensus

It may not be as powerful as the 1984 edition, but the 2010 Karate Kid delivers a surprisingly satisfying update on the original.

Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard The script is a lumbering, ponderous thing. Rated: 2/5 Aug 3, 2010 Full Review Robbie Collin News of the World On balance, this new version is probably a bit better than the original. Rated: 4/5 Aug 2, 2010 Full Review Sukhdev Sandhu Daily Telegraph (UK) There's life in this franchise yet. Rated: 3/5 Jul 30, 2010 Full Review Elisa Guimarães Collider The 2010 Karate Kid isn’t by any means as memorable and generation-defining as the original 1984 movie, but, in a world full of failed remakes, it sure is a pleasant surprise. Jan 29, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Inflated and unnecessary at nearly two-and-a-half hours, The Karate Kid offers nothing but indifference for those familiar with the original, and little emotional rewards for audiences new to the material. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 18, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) This Karate Kid does not surpass the original, but it is superior to those sequels. Adam S The Kung Fu Kid, not the Karate Kid. Obviously the writers, director and Sony Pictures had no idea.😆 As Karate is the national sport Japan. It's not as if Sony Pictures a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc, which is itself a subsidiary of Japanese multinational technology and media conglomerate. As it is actually, "The Kung To Kid". Would it be classified as a remake??? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Lunar L Very good movie and the movie theater was packed in 2010 when it came out. The white critics are just mad it's better then the original that's why they give it a low rating but it's very good as Jaden actually trained in China for the film and fully absorbed the culture for the role. Also Jackie Chan the legend himself is usually silly in his films but was very serious and stern in this film which added to the drama. Perfect story with perfect execution. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Audience Member MANY better scenes than the one from 1984, good settings, choreography and soundtrack, the 80s one seems recorded on the street and the only memorable thing it has is the crane scene that nostalgia only helps it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review humberto a Creo que lo mejor de ésta película es el drama, las actuacione y peleas. Esto es Cine. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Faiz D Liked the changes they made in this version. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Abigail L If you don’t believe this movie is superior to the 1984 version you are completely blinded by nostalgia, it is an excellent movie Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
