      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Mary Elizabeth Winstead does reliably gripping work in the title role, but Kate is disappointingly derivative of numerous other female assassin films.

      Audience Consensus

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is great, but Kate doesn't do enough to set itself apart from all the other recent "assassin out for revenge" movies.

Theodoros A Really enjoyed it! I also read in a youtube comments that it follows the narrative style of Kabuki, a classical form of Japanese theater told in five acts. Pacted with action! 🔫 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Pierre L not one but multiple stabbing Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Niko O much much better than these reviews deserves. action with great acting Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Darren D What is the main plot for most 1980s & early 1990s action films, revenge & "Kate" is exactly that. Think "24 Hours To Live" (2017) and "D.O.A." (1950/1988) where our protagonist has a short time left to live & so begins the blood soaked brutal violent journey through the neon lighted streets of Japan. It avoids my main criticism of most modern action films & that's the up close camera with too many cuts, but the action in "Kate" allows you to see each punch, shot and stab allowing the bloody action to flow. One of the main reasons this worked is down to the performance from Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who looks like she's been doing action films for years. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Cheryl R doesn't do anything new, but what it does, it does it very well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Oliver M Mary is amazing Her face just conveys so much Beautifully made John Wicks and a Kill Bill that goes darker and deeper simpler And there's a Woody Her Face Thank You Mary Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Alexandra Heller-Nicholas ABC Radio (Australia) A fun, fast-paced actioner Rated: 3/5 Sep 28, 2021 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan makes great use of the Japanese setting and of newcomer Miku Patricia Martineau, who becomes Kate's unlikely local sidekick, but he might have done more with Woody Harrelson. Sep 17, 2021 Full Review Karen Han Slate Kate gestures at being different, something fresh and subversive, but at the end of the day, it's just reheating old clichés. Sep 15, 2021 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online Kate is a fun and schlocky revenge thriller that appears to be pretty slick, but the lacklustre story stops it from reaching true heights. Rated: 3/5 Jul 27, 2023 Full Review Nuha Hassan Off Colour It’s not a perfect story from beginning to end either. While these action sequences are entertaining and disturbing, Kate’s characterization and her relationship with Ani, and the result is predictable. Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Charles Hartford But Why Tho? A Geek Community Kate delivers everything I could ever ask of a hard-hitting revenge-driven action movie. With a badass lead, great chemistry, and action moments that left me flinching on multiple occasions, this movie is a must-watch for the action aficionados out there.
