      Critics Consensus

The script is mediocre and fails to give Ferrell a proper comedic showcase.

Mason V yall, what is with the bad reviews. i like this movie, its funny. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Gerardo Miguel E In the 00s, comedy stories had a similar formula, especially if they were related to sports. This was not the exception, although I admit that he had one or another quite funny situation. If there's a moment where you want to see something that doesn't require a lot of analysis, you choose a film like this, where you see Will Ferrell playing Will Ferrell. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/23 Full Review Jeffrey M Kicking and Screaming was an amazing movie. It was a really interesting soccer movie. This movie also had a good moral too. Kicking and Screaming was not as funny as Elf ( one of Will Ferell's other movies ) but Kicking and Screaming was still really funny, and I LOVE comedy. What I don't understand is how this lovely movie got a 41% for critics and a 43% for audience. Kicking and Screaming doesn't deserve such low audience and critic score. I really don't understand why people don't like this, there is nothing wrong with Kicking and Screaming. Kicking and Screaming needs much higher ratings. What a good movie. I give this movie a 72%. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Truman S Kicking and screaming is a funny, awkward, and very enjoyable movie. It combines sports and comedy, which are two of my favorite things. Plus: Will Ferrell. Of course it's gonna be good when he's in it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Brian D 67%. Will Ferrel makes any movie funny. His dynamic with some kids in particular like Byoung Sun was funny. Not funny enough for a rewatch. 2 on rewatch scale Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/23 Full Review StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 34 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David Ansen Newsweek It's all kept light and funny, but underlying the broad sight gags is a movie that actually has something to say about competition, fathers and sons, machismo and caffeine. Feb 28, 2018 Full Review Stephen Garrett Time Out Will Ferrell has become the most unlikely embodiment of wholesome family fun since Fred MacMurray gave up film noir for My Three Sons. Aug 16, 2007 Full Review Keith Phipps AV Club This isn't the worst setup for a kiddie comedy, but it proves that Ferrell alone can't carry a film. Sep 26, 2005 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com As disjointed as the whole thing is, it's often funny and, on a certain level, endearing. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 13, 2020 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News There is a bit of heart in Kicking and Screaming, with Ferrell and Duvall both giving nice performances. Rated: B- Nov 18, 2019 Full Review Mattie Lucas The Dispatch (Lexington, NC) Just too awkward and clunky to be enjoyable. Rated: 2/4 Jun 5, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
