Brian Costello Common Sense Media Violent German thriller is exciting but predictable. Rated: 2/5 Jul 17, 2019 Full Review John Serba Decider Kidnapping Stella can be visually dynamic, and it boasts a couple of whopper twists. But it doesn't work hard enough to justify its existence. Luis M. D A little undervalued, I think. Not precisely a great movie, but effective in creating some degree of suspense and not as illogical as other movies of this genre. The best about this movie is that is mostly restrained. The worst is that is just a thriller as usual. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/23 Full Review tom m Don't bother. I'm not sure why I continued to watch this selection served up by the Netflix A.I. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Kidnapping Stella is a remake of the 2009 Disappearance of Alice Creed. It's more of a german carbon copy, with the identical plot and almost by the numbers scenes. My question is why? The original was good, but nowhere near the masterpiece status to warrant a do over. The "remake" doesn't bring anything new or modern to the latest Teutonic rendition. With the existence of a Dutch adaptation titled Rekless, there are three versions of this film, count them three, and maybe could there be a Broadway musical? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Why in god's name remake "The Disappearance of Alice Creed," the film that proved that you only need three people in a room to make a compelling drama, providing the writing is top notch and the actors are talented. And Disappearance had Gemma Arterton and Eddie Marsan, so it doesn't get much better than that. Usually remakes are done after a lot of time has gone by, but The Disappearance of Alice Creed isn't that old. This German remake is even doing the original line by line. Very strange decision. I'm going to look up Alice now and just watch the original. Also, if you're watching this version in English, it's dubbed from the German, and poorly. Maybe German people would like to watch the story in their native tongue, but me? I'm outta here. Won't even finish it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review sarah s The film goes through the motions of what an audience would expect from the theme and trailers etc. But it does keep a good pace and has some suspense and shocking actions that hold attention. The dreary colour scheme, apart from the red bag on the tree is effective in showing everyone involved's general outlook, the mood was sombre and helpless the whole time. Predictable etc but it was a decent film Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
