Killian & the Comeback Kids is the story of a young mixed race musician forced to return to his rural hometown after an expensive college degree. A chance encounter with a childhood acquaintance gives the summer new direction. They throw together a rag-tag band of other struggling locals for one shot to play a music festival coming to their once prosperous steel town. Armed with only folk-rock, Killian and the band hope to unite the community -- if just for one night. With its multi-racial cast and summer time concerts it still has some of the summer 2020 we all wish we could find.

Carla Hay Culture Mix Some of the acting in Killian & the Comeback Kids is amateurish and stilted, but this heartfelt drama about obscure folk-rock musicians has enough realistic scenarios and engaging performances that are worth watching. Apr 30, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member The cleverness of the opening scene had me chuckling but It wasn't until later in the film, during the bands first practice that I felt the chemistry between all the actors and for me the film really started to develop. I appreciated the fact that the creation of the band was not the event that defined the characters but instead the catalyst that allowed them to take the next step to become what they really wanted to be but, didn't have the confidence to do on their own. The relationship between Tristan and Killian was my favorite for various reasons but it sends the message that holding grudges is only going to hold you back in life, a message that we all need to remember more often. Other significant relationships that became important during the film were between Killian and his father and Sam and Killian which were both awkward but in a good way. Sam and Rose's growing relationship seemed important enough to mention and the fact that this relationship was not part of the clichéd main character storyline was refreshing but also allowed me to focus more on other plot points such as the underlying social issues of the town which resulted from the steel industry closing. In general, Killian and the Comeback Kids was a great story, told well and relatable to many. I plan to see it again soon with a few more members of my family.
