David J Magnificent and prescient. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/10/22 Full Review Audience Member A very interesting and ending. You need to watch up until the last second to fully understand the meaning of the story. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Casting: Superb -- close matches with the real-life people, right down to the grandchildren. Acting: Top-notch. Dialogue: Audacious combining of Shakespearean with modern, and it works. Plot: GAH! Come on. Please. No. Not really. No! Contrived and utterly implausible, right down to the Lady Macbeth bit. When it was over, my husband said "Here's how I feel about it," leaned over to click the one star, and declared "I HATED it!" He gathered that I hadn't hated it as much as he did (hence I've compromised on the two-star rating), and we discussed our assessments (I was impressed by the Shakespearean/modern language melding). For a better use of the talents of the late, great Mr. Pigott-Smith, see "Wodehouse in Exile" (available free on Hoopla). Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Uma trama bem envolvente, quase levando a crer tratar-se de fatos reais. Uma direção majestosa e atuações magníficas. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I have been wanting to see this movie since missing the stage show in the West End during my last London visit. Waiting until now to experience it has only increased its impact, given its portrayal of Harry's desire to walk away from ‘the firm'. And while it is billed as being the speculative story of Prince Charles' fictional accession to the throne following the Queen's death, when he refuses to sign a controversial bill into law, the political chaos that ensures was not at all what I was expecting, especially with regards to Kate's ambition. While it has been hammered by the critics, there are some redeeming moments in Tim Piggott-Smith's portrayal of Charles, as carry-on from his stage portrayal. The use of Shakespearean type language as it is spoken in blank verse is a brave choice, but effective for a drama of Shakespearean scale, even if its impact was inconsistent across scenes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member It left me feeling disgusted and disappointed in whoever created which a horrid film. Kate Abbott Guardian Surely the boldest BBC show of the year. Jun 28, 2017 Full Review Euan Ferguson Guardian By turns bouncy, melancholy, arrogant and sore betrayed, the face little resembles that of Charles but, somehow, within its planes, there is conveyed the selfsame sense of insane privilege, niggling grievance and open, misunderstood humanity. May 15, 2017 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times If King Charles III never quite escapes its ruling conceit, it nevertheless makes for a pleasurable experience. May 15, 2017 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette It all feels a bit unfair to the real-life counterparts. And then King Charles III makes a fascinating pivot.
