Critics Consensus

King of Thieves unites an incredible cast for a heist movie brimming with potential -- most of which, sadly, evaporates long before the end credits have started to roll.

It's kind of a mishmash of tones... [But] these guys could just sit around and have tea and talk and it would be enormously watchable. Go to Full Review

The Hatton Gardens heist was a ballsy operation. You can't say the same about King of Thieves. Go to Full Review

A disappointingly dour affair and not exactly the rollicking adventure about a bunch of old geezers pulling off a successful heist that we might have expected. Go to Full Review

Once the heist itself has been pulled off we see the men slowly let their greed take over. They start to mistrust one another, never fully aware of just how much they’ve snagged. This can and has worked before, but it doesn’t here. Go to Full Review

King of Thieves harbors no illusions about ensnaring the viewer's nostalgia for the British gangster films that inspired it, nor does it hesitate to shower affection onto its cast. Go to Full Review

The attempt at a crossover between a cockney-style Ealing comedy and a gritty criminal drama feels disjointed and, given the talent involved, a little amateurish. Go to Full Review

Darren P Apr 27 Good film Funny as well great cast and some good punchlines from Michael Caine. I really like it watched it loads of times See more Koi P @hopep Apr 3 Suspensful and nuanced. Interesting. See more bill f 06/24/2023 Passes the time but little else. Tries hard to be both a comedy and a thriller but doesn't really succeed at either. For such a daring burglary, this could have surely been done a lot better. See more David H 05/01/2023 Fun veteran cast makes this an entertaining enough watch See more Ian W 02/23/2023 Not sure about all the hate on this film. Yes, the actors swear too much, and it's unnecessary. But cockney villains DO swear a lot (as my east-end wife would testify). You get the feeling that the actors all enjoyed playing their parts - perhaps more than the audience did getting to watching it. It's certainly not great. It didn't really test the brain too much. But for a couple of hours of harmless fun, closely based on a true story I thought it was OK. See more Andrea K 10/10/2022 The performances are enough to watch this movie. There seems to be a disconnect between scenes that can make everything a little difficult to follow the story line. See more Read all reviews
