      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

King of Thieves unites an incredible cast for a heist movie brimming with potential -- most of which, sadly, evaporates long before the end credits have started to roll.

bill f Passes the time but little else. Tries hard to be both a comedy and a thriller but doesn't really succeed at either. For such a daring burglary, this could have surely been done a lot better. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/24/23 Full Review David H Fun veteran cast makes this an entertaining enough watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/23 Full Review Ian W Not sure about all the hate on this film. Yes, the actors swear too much, and it's unnecessary. But cockney villains DO swear a lot (as my east-end wife would testify). You get the feeling that the actors all enjoyed playing their parts - perhaps more than the audience did getting to watching it. It's certainly not great. It didn't really test the brain too much. But for a couple of hours of harmless fun, closely based on a true story I thought it was OK. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Lily O British Wit at its best, with some great Actors. Based on a true story, knowing the end yet you hope it goes the other way for them. Who ever gave it one and a half out of five....obviously don't get British Wit Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Andrea K The performances are enough to watch this movie. There seems to be a disconnect between scenes that can make everything a little difficult to follow the story line. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/10/22 Full Review tim o What's not to like? A great cast, reflecting the true story of an old, "gang who couldn't shoot straight", jewel heist, that disintegrates into chaos. I could watch Caine and crew work all day long. Beats hell out of what passes for most "modern" crime flix. Good stuff. Makes me want to go back and watch the original *1968*, 'The Italian Job'. :'D Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's kind of a mishmash of tones... [But] these guys could just sit around and have tea and talk and it would be enormously watchable. Sep 17, 2019 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au The Hatton Gardens heist was a ballsy operation. You can't say the same about King of Thieves. Rated: 2/5 Mar 7, 2019 Full Review David Stratton The Australian A disappointingly dour affair and not exactly the rollicking adventure about a bunch of old geezers pulling off a successful heist that we might have expected. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 2, 2019 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation The very definition of "Netflixable." Rated: 3/4 Mar 29, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review King of Thieves harbors no illusions about ensnaring the viewer's nostalgia for the British gangster films that inspired it, nor does it hesitate to shower affection onto its cast. Rated: 2/4 Mar 4, 2022 Full Review Laura Potier Outtake Mag The attempt at a crossover between a cockney-style Ealing comedy and a gritty criminal drama feels disjointed and, given the talent involved, a little amateurish.
