Variety Staff Variety Impression sneaks through that Carol Reed wasn’t exactly comfortable in the director chore on this type of limp yarn. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Bosley Crowther New York Times Within the narrow compass of the story Mr. Reed has revealed each detail with all the art of a miniaturist's hand and his actors have responded beautifully. Mar 25, 2006 Full Review George Orwell Time and Tide It is a pleasure to be able to report, for once, that a novel has been filmed and remained recognizable. Oct 2, 2023 Full Review TV Guide Staff TV Guide A very good cast, an able directo, a slick production, and an H.G. Wells story should add up to a fairly good movie, but something went wrong. Dec 7, 2011 Full Review Film4 Staff Film4 A small film, but Redgrave's performance and Reed's direction make it a highly worthwhile one. May 24, 2003 Full Review Read all reviews

isla s This is quite a charming watch. There is a somewhat eccentric character present that I found amusing at times and I liked seeing how the titular characters life panned out. Based on an HG Wells novel, I thought it was an interesting story and film, one with the main theme being on the British social class system at the turn of the 20th century. Its a little bland for those who prefer more action packed type films but then thats perhaps to be expected, given this is a film dating from the 1940s and its in black and white. An interesting story and an enjoyable watch, I'd say its worth a watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Watching this movie... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Good, well made, but I didn't much like Kipps because the character was a bit of a nob. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Feelgood comedy about a simple young man (kipps) who, on the day he's fired from his job, learns he has inherited a fortune from a grandfather he didn't know he had. An enjoyable watch if a little drawn out in parts. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
