After two years in a mental institution, housewife Kira (Stine Stengade) comes home to her husband, Mads (Lars Mikkelsen), and their children, hoping to reconnect with her family and get on with her life. But things go wrong almost immediately, as she hysterically, though not without reason, accuses Mads of infidelity. After she confronts her father (Sven Wollter) about family secrets, Kira's mental stability deteriorates even further, and she and her family must decide what course to take.

Stengarde gives an arresting performance as a mentally unstable woman. Go to Full Review

The film never particularly achieves any depth or resonance and ultimately comes across as a series of wacky, albeit rather disturbing episodes. Go to Full Review

Despite Kira's Reason's chamber-drama focus, it never achieves [Madsen's] first film's intimacy. Go to Full Review

An incredibly touching ride along the jilting, jarring ups-and-downs of a deeply, madly loving relationship, where two people never quit trying, and failing, together. Go to Full Review

03/05/2022 I left the cinema after an hour. See more 07/22/2012 Great movie for being filmed within the Dogme 95 guidelines See more 11/12/2011 This is the best dogma-film I have seen so far. captivating in a mad way, in a word. See more 12/17/2010 Been sick so I've been watching all of the dogma 95 movies that I never caught in the past... I really liked this movie...apparently a lot more than most people. It was really beautiful. See more 04/28/2010 Another one of the Danish Dogme films. With the stark production and the use of digital cameras and no music score or effects of any kind, your left with a very intense experience. The two leads were very good here. Some of the scenes are just so awkward to watch, which is always a sign of a good movie. See more 09/27/2009 This movie is about a manic depressive woman that no one around her (husband, sister, father, people in general) has any clue what she is about or why she does the things she does. If you really want to understand this movie I suggest watching the 1956 "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and consider that everyone in this movie except Kira (Stine Stengade) is actually one of the "Pod People". The swimming pool scene is a case in point. The husband doesn't really like her at all, but sticks with her because the sex is so good (at least when she is manic). I only recommend this film to manic depressives because Pod People just won't get it. This is a Dogma 95 film. I always initially find the hand-held cameras irritating but I adjust as the film goes on. I do however very much like the natural lighting and the use of music only when it is actually part of the film (listening to radio for example). Netflix seems to think the film is in Danish - I think there is at least as much Swedish in this film as Danish and there is also some English. My favorite scene: When Kira wakes up in Malmö after a night of drinking in Copenhagen. See more Read all reviews
