Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times The wonderful Rashida Jones voices a teacher who could become a love interest for Jesper. And any movie that casts Norm Macdonald as a cynical boat captain who sounds exactly like Norm MacDdnald is all right by me. Rated: 3/4 Dec 3, 2019 Full Review Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture It's awkward and weird, and yet all that awkwardness and weirdness give it personality and charm and a freewheeling, nonsensical quality that feels refreshing. Nov 25, 2019 Full Review Ashlie D. Stevens Salon.com Though there are some narrative blips in Klaus born out of a premise that is maybe just a little too complex for a 97-minute film, the movie is absolutely beautiful. Nov 18, 2019 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn Greatly enjoyed watching this with my kids. It was a bit darker than I was expecting but nonetheless it's a feel good film that's surprisingly funny. Rated: 4/5 Dec 27, 2024 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn This is a very cute, entertaining family film. Definitely went in a different direction than I was expecting. Kris S Phenomenal movie - This should be considered one of the true Christmas classics. I am extremely appreciative that Netflix granted the theater permission to play it. I also pray that this movie is made available on disc someday - it truly deserves to be seen everywhere Christmas is celebrated. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Cade H. Klaus features beautiful animation and a unique holiday plot, making it an instant holiday favorite among many. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Kaique P The best animated movie to watch for Christmas (this review might contain a couple spoilers) Klaus is the perfect movie to watch with children and family when Christmas is coming. It’s a Christmas animated movie about a very spoiled mailman named Jesper, who is sent to a remote island by his dad with the purpose to send a very huge amount of letters on his own and stop being so used to others doing everything for him. As soon as he gets to the island, Jesper finds out that the people there are gonna give him a hard time sending those letters, since the island is home to two rival families that keep their days busy by fighting each other and no one seems interested in having peaceful communication through Jesper’s letters. As the movie goes on, Jesper meets a very lonely lumberjack called Klaus and sets up a plan with him: to make children send letters in exchange for the wooden toys Klaus makes. Then, as the children get excited about their new toys and even start going to the once abandoned school to learn how to read and write their letters, Jesper and Klaus get closer and closer and everyone in the island - that was once so sad and terrifying - starts decorating the whole place with joy and treating people with kindness, regardless of which family they belong to. The movie talks not only about a story to explain the beginning of Christmas, but also about how important it is to give a chance to people and how the innocence of children is capable of making two entirely different communities get along so well even after decades of hating each other. I honestly love to watch this movie every 25th of December, reunited with my grandparents, uncles, brothers, cousins, pets and whoever else wants to come and share a good family movie night with the most delicious leftovers from Christmas eve. I believe that Klaus was nominated for the Oscars for a reason, it is truly an admiring story, combined with such a fluid animation and a great character development (and I’m not talking only about Jesper, who learns how to live by himself and to value people around him, but about everyone he gets in touch with in the island.) I give this movie a 10/10 and recommend it every year for all of my friends to watch with their families as soon as the calendar says: December 1st. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/28/25 Full Review Jace E I absolutely love this movie. I don't know where I was in 2019, but I had not idea that this movie was released. It is pure, simple Christmas joy from start to finish. The animation is uniquely gorgeous, the story is crisp and there is magic throughout. Klaus is a movie that I will watch every Christmas season. Best Character: Jesper Best Quote: "A true selfless act always sparks another." - Klaus Best Scene: Jesper's First Gift Best Piece of Score: "Once a Year, I Get To See My Friend" Best Song: "Invisible" Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/25 Full Review Audience Member This film is genuinely beautiful. This will forever be a Christmas classic, and probably the most unexpected one at that Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/13/25 Full Review Natalie R One of the best Christmas movies I have ever seen!
