Mike McCahill Guardian Here are sad, lonely, damaged men, clinging to their dog collars even as circumstances transform them into vices around their necks. Rated: 3/5 Oct 11, 2018 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies Although far from outstanding in its execution, the film served to re-initiate inflamed yet necessary debates about well-known abuses in the Catholic Church worldwide. Audience Member Instead of making you think, the movie ends up being more preachy than sermons it depicts. One of the plot lines had actual nuance which was good until it got completely ruined by unnecessary last 30 minutes, stripping the experience of any depth. It's just not worth your time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Some just OK, some good things Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review duncan p The plot's a bit scattered at times and can be a bit hard to follow, but it's a blunt, twisty, entirely unflattering portrayal of the Catholic church in Poland. It's often quite shocking, not least because it's unashamed to show just how corrupt and awful things are, and never settles for being an easy watch, and is ultimately entirely pessimistic about the Church itself. As with all of these films about specific places, a few cultural touches won't mean anything to anyone, but it still stands on its own as a powerful film, if you can stomach what it shows. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Fearless, trenchant, and in a Grand Guignol style. The pictured priests somehow come through not just as beasts but (with one or two exceptions) as victims. They perpetuate the abuse and corruption that they had suffered as children in the hands of an human institution and environment. The film's impact in Poland (where I watched it) compares to Cranberries' Zombie role in shaking up Ireland's politics. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Great movie, so great that is banned in a few polish towns. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
