Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald The movie is half a great film about Kokoda. Jan 31, 2011 Full Review Jim Schembri The Age (Australia) One of the great strengths of Kokoda is the unflinching honesty with which it recreates the nature of the fighting. The film brims with detail that is physically, emotionally and psychologically authentic. Rated: 4.5/5 Jan 31, 2011 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) The film deserves absolutely top marks for really re-creating this nightmare -- the rain, the mud, the dysentery, the horrors and it is almost like a horror film at times, as the Japanese get so close to them. Rated: 4/5 Jan 31, 2011 Full Review Colin Fraser FILMINK (Australia) It's a remarkable feature for so many reasons, not the least of which is the haunting tension that fills every shot of every scene. Jan 31, 2011 Full Review Margaret Pomeranz At the Movies (Australia) First time director Alister Grierson is excellent at recreating the physicality of the Kokoda Trail but misses an emotional factor so that the film, while convincing, is not as moving as you would want or expect. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 31, 2011 Full Review Urban Cinefile Critics Urban Cinefile The film is at times harrowing, but how can it not? But for Australians, it is a stirring and valuable tribute and a fine piece of cinema. Apr 11, 2006 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Shallow characters. What a missed chance to tell a great story. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/19 Full Review Audience Member Not a bad Australian war film. but was way to slow for my likening needed something more Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Mud and hollow sentiment. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member As a war film, it is a must see as it captures the realism and horrors of the Kokoda track, though the characters and story is nothing special it makes up for it with its realistic re-enactment of the frightening jungle battle. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A very decent and realistic war film but could have been better if they had focused a bit more on character development Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Oh, good, a real movie to relieve me of the pain from the last one. Well, for a film depicting and bringing the struggles faced by our Australian troops to the big screen, I'd say this film was a real eye-opener. It's one of those movies that makes you feel grateful for the life we have today, because if it wasn't for the sacrifices made by the allies during the Second World War, the world we know today would be completely different. I can respect the effort that went into this and the good acting talent that went with it to bring the psychological and physical realities of war to the big screen.
