Ekoma (Didier Sauvegrain) is a young man in a Pygmy tribe whose hardscrabble life gets harder when his father dies. Compounding this is his relationship with his fiancée, whom he cannot marry because she's been enslaved by a local village elder. Life improves when Ekoma liberates his love from her captor and saves the life of a visiting Frenchman, who rewards him for his heroism. Ekoma underestimates, however, the petty envy of his fellow tribesmen, who attempt to take advantage of his success.
